Australian throws his daughter from a bridge to her death

...

I don't really have words to describe something like this. I won't pretend to understand insane people.

However, I always wonder why suicidal people jump off bridges. Is it because it's convenient? Does it have some sort of symbolic meaning? Is it because it's the only high drop they can think of?

It's because it's a hardwired instinct, trust me, if you were to jump to your death you would jump off a bridge.

Well okay not really.

Maybe they jump because they hope that the water will save them? Subconscious reaction, perhaps?

Seems kinda contradictory to want to die but jump from a place without a certainty of death.

I know a guy that jumped off a very high bridge. He was pretty depressed, he did it on the anniversary of his girlfriend breaking up with him.

On-topic, I can't make heads-or-tails of the story, the guy just did it randomly. The article blames "acute pschiatric distress", whatever that means, and a custody dispute with his Wife, which made him snap apparently.

I can't make out whether or not this guy deserves to get off on temporary insanity or something similar. Simply too few details.

I don't know why, but I wonder what it would have been like to be driving by and see him throw/drop/whatever her in there.

All right, first thing.. I'm not having a go at any of you folks, I have just heard enough about this in the local media. That being said...

Can we not sensationalize something that has already been blown well out of proportion by the media?

It's kind of a tragedy already that is being compounded by being run with by every internet drama miner going.

I'm not saying we should be supporting this sort of treatment of kids, but can we remember the dead kid's families and stuff?

That girl must have been stupid or something. If I saw a crazy guy running around on a bridge, gibbering like an idiot, I would probably run and get the cops. I bet she was like "OH BOY MY FIRST BOSS BATTLE" and tried to cast magic missile on him or something. Typically four year old girl, if you ask me.

...Do I even need to explain how bad that is?

I wouldn't have said that if Old Man Gator hadn't said something about remembering the families of the dead. I obviously was being facetious. I think.

I realize that she was the guy's daughter and everything, too, so this makes the event even more tragic.

By the way, would someone who was a proficient swimmer be able to survive that? If anything, this illustrates the importance of preparing your children for anything you can.

Well, I'd tell them what to do if I went violently insane, at least.
