I'm playing my first serious Fort (the first to go far enough to get Immigrants and Goblin sieges), and I've captured a Giant Eagle in a cage-trap. My new immigrant Beastmaster is taming it now.

How should I use it? Assign it as a pet to an outdoor Dwarf (eg: a Marksman on the wall rampart).

Step 3)Raise arms over head, fists clenched.

Step 4)Laugh maniacally. Now you'll show them. Show them all.

Step 5) Assign to best marksdwarf you have. Keep surrounded by other marksdwarves.

It was funnier without the meme.

I've come to the conclusion that animals really aren't that great. They can't keep up with fast dwarves, and they're too vulnerable to crossbows. But a war eagle is the best you can get, I think.

Idea: Once it's trained, build a pedestal outside your entrance and assign it as a meeting zone. The eagle should be the only one who can reach it, so he'll perch atop it and stand sentry. You couldn't assign him to a dwarf, of course.

Train it then shave its head. Adopt the stars and stripes as your flag. Secede from the Mountainhomes.  Have the eagle (name it Sam) perch majestically on the shoulder of your (democratically elected) commander-in-chief to inspire awe and fear in other dwarven nations. You can't get more Dwarmerican than a weaponized shoulder-mounted bald eagle, unless you mod it to vomit lava at the sight of elves while fighting communism.

Or that. Actually that's a very good idea. If you can somehow get your hands on a breeding partner for it, start the first Dwarven Army's Air Support Division.
