Strange ambushes
« on: January 28, 2009, 10:25:29 am »

In year 4 of my fort now, and I recently started getting a lot ambushes. Not all that strange, except each ambush consisted of 4-7 goblins + 1 elf/dwarf. Not running any mods, and I've never had an ambush consist of anything other than goblins before, so why are elves/dwarves leading goblin ambushes against my fortress?

Dwarves/elves/humans that have been kidnapped during worldgen have been brought up under goblin rule and obey the goblin king (or demon, or whatever it is). If his 'brethren' go to attack a town/fortress/elven retreat they go along.

Ah, that makes sense. First time I saw the ambush I thought one of the members of the elven caravan was lagging behind the rest, and then he went berserk on my war dogs :( Atleast one of them killed him.

Same thing happened to me, except with a human caravan. While I was skimming through the creatures list to see how many ambushers I was facing, I didn't pay attention to that Human Crossbowman...

Edit: As for strange ambushes, I've often had goblins show up in unexpected places, because I forgot to seal off random copper mine #9 after mining through it.

That's NOTHING.

I've had strange seiges with goblin crossbowmen spawning in the center of the fort.

THAT would make sieges more fun!

If you build a tower to the highest z level and then build a floor connecting the top of the tower to the edge of the map you can sometimes get goblins to spawn at that 15 z-level high floor section. If that's not strange then I don't know what is...

Hey, uhh...what if you flood the outside world with magma and there is no edge tile for sieges and such to spawn?  Will we get goblin smores?
