I'll try to draw something more detailed on the weekend, using my favorite drawing program - the built in sprite editor in the O.H.R.R.P.G.C.E..  16 colors, 80x80 pixels, unless I feel like exporting into paint for even more work.

And inaluct, mudmen are the same size as humans, for future reference.

Has Toady said whether or not female dwarves have beards? Yes, this is very important.

I think I'll consider letting the public decide.

Well, in the new hair-tracking raws coming out, allowing female dwarves to have beards only requires adding a couple brackets, with a little note from Toady to that effect.

And so, in Toady's stock definition of dwarves, women do not have beards.

The future raws from 12-18-08 have female dwarves without beards, but Toady left that easily changeable.

The gender tag lets it know how breeding works.
      [FEMALE]
      [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE]
To add beards, put square brackets around the following:
      BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS

And I should get a pic up tomorrow. I'm on the wrong computer to make something right now, but oh well. Feel free to get goin' without me.

Oh well, too late. It is up to the people of the forums to decide this matter:

Ok, this is very good, I think I have enough for the setting to have been decided into DF-like by now, however an extremified version were the females have beards and use baby armor and all the other absurd community memes that are not actually in the game.
Also, I underestimated you people when I said I'd need to wait until 8 sheets for getting 3-4 good enough for using, still drawing more than 4 is probably to much work so Aquzzar you will have to wait, because a mudman is harder to work into the scene I have thought up.

S'cool.  That'll give me time to make some real art.

And by make, I mean completely forget about it.

Hmm, I think you might be putting to much effort into it really, a good rule of thumb might be an hour for sheets and 30 min for turns, spending more is really only needed if you want an IC bonus like when attempting something critical and/or unlikely.
Mind you, putting to much effort into it is still a good thing, just not strictly needed for the game.
And some style, of wich pixel art is one I'd think, simply takes longer to make so the rule of thumb is not guarantied to apply.

Hmm... considering the photobucket quality, I probably shouldn't shade little things in paint anymore. It's barely visible, and just not worth and. And it'll make sure I finish them in a reasonable amount of time, hehe.

On another note, I'm not sure why, but I have the feeling inaluct's art style is going to make for some hilarious actions. And I'm the only one there with a mouth :P

And by the way, it didn't come out quite as I had hoped, but that thing on my head is supposed to be black hair oiled back into a rogue's knot. Looks more like a bent sock when I look back at it.

Thank you. I consider that to be a compliment.

I assumed that the hair was some sort of hat.

Also, you might want to try saving it as a .png or .gif to reduce the artifact stuff.

Let's see how they compare... the original on top and new one on bottom...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Brilliant! Thanks inaluct, that cleared it right up ;)

Still looks like a sock on his head though :P

Let it be a sock.  That's the pantyhose he pulls over his face when he robs stores.

Damn, I ignored this until it was too late. Now that I've read it, I realize that this would be an amazing thing to enter.

If I fail to create my concept, I will gladly give you my position. Now I just need to wait for my Sister to let me at the good computer.
