I'm going to try and go for a wordless story; one worth reading and with emotional value. Hopefully, learning how to draw will go along well with the back ground exposition; as Vabok gets older in his back story, his memories will be clearer and more emotionally charged.

I'll limit it to Paint only for this game, though. I might use GIMP if another one of these comes up later, since you've got a point with the Photoshop thing.

That sounds grate, even if I'm not sure what you mean? the game? the backstory?

I'm of for today, hopefully there will be enough players so that I can start tomorrow.

what do you make of that? (I know what I meant to draw, but I wonder what you think my character is)

(A buck-tooth spider wizard perhaps?)

Anyway, my entry is ready.  I almost got off my ass, then did some quick Googling.  I was going to draw some actual pixel art, but I got halfway through shading an arm and realized I was so not in the mood for that much effort.

I realize there's no name in the picture.  He is self-aware and sapient, but as a mudman, he has no name besides what others give him.  Nicknames are welcome.  Obviously, he doesn't have any equipment on hand either.

Vabok is admiring some of the fortress's engravings before staying home/setting off for adventure.

Also, I'm waiting for someone to get what the helmet references.

We all know what the helmet references, or at least every gamer should know.

I can't remember what the thing's colloquial name is, but Japanese laborers really do wear them.

I might join, but this depends on how good of a sprite I can come out with. Hopefully I can do something akin to the quality of, Hmm... Squidi? Likely not that quality, but that style. Let us see by tomorrow.

Is it not from the mushroom type enemies in megaman?

Alright, was going to add more background scenery and such, but I decided that this was enough, and that it wouldn't really do much for the character. Behold, Darkein the rogue!

darn photobucket really reduces the quality. That poster says WANTED: ☼1,000,000. Hope it's good enough! Also, future images probably won't be quite this detailed, but like I said, it's the character sheet, so it has to be good.

Also, perhaps to help him fit in with the group of DF-themed characters, he can pose as/actually act like a merchant at times, killing and looting if he can't get the deal he hoped for. And if he can't kill em, he'll sneak in some other time to assassinate. He also prefers small and shiny/expensive things to objects such as gold bars or masterwork battleaxes. Gems, jewelry, interesting knick-knacks, etc are what he prefers. Enchanted things (if magic is put in) are also enjoyed.

I really shouldn't say everything here, but when not acting as a rogue, Darkein does enjoy a nice drink and some company, even if it's with his enemies. There, I'm done now, hehe.

This is basically how I see all of the characters. My sense of scale will come into being later. Duke already said what his idea was, but I decided to draw his character inside a box, so I don't mess up his gold hat. Urgh and Darkein should probably be a lot taller, but my character wouldn't know that.

Also, this is Urgh's alternate wardrobe. He's wearing pants instead of a burlap sack.

I'm re-working my pixel map for my castle in paint tonight, which should not take so long and leave me enough time to make something rough. And unlike your characters, mine is going to be a proper pixel art character. As in something from Squidi.
