Dwarves are stupid when it comes to weapons

Two gauntlets are NOT swords.
use the bismuth longsword dammit.

how do I force the dwarf to use the sword?
only leather armour?

Wait, does a dwarf need a certain strength to carry one, because she was holding a willow sword JUST fine (damn elf sympathizer)

If it's an actual long-sword, the problem is that dwarves need two hands to hold them.  You have to go to the dwarf's soldiering options - under (p) - and tell him to use two weapons (it actually tracks how many hands he's allowed to use).

Wait, BISMUTH long sword?

How did you manage that? The only way would be if it's an artifact, in which case your dwarves won't equip it unless they're champions or something.
