drowning with swimming skill?

i was recently knocked into a iver by some fish. i had swimming skill but it still said i was drowning. whats with this? im using legendary lands but i've seen this before that.

If you're stunned, you'll drown. Swimming skill or not.

It's really easy to drown in Dwarf Fortress.

Aside from this, novice-or-below swimmers also panic and start drowning if they a) fall into the water rather than easing into it or b) go below the surface, i.e. dive another Z-level down.
