Looks like cast iron. Hematite is an iron ore.

What self respecting craftsdwarf would use iron or it's ore for trade goods?

How fast can he churn those out? He has to be able to churn out the equivalent of a small production line before he is legendary, without sacrificing quality.

Nope, everything on there is stone-carving; I think there was a Gabbro skull in there somewhere.

I meant just that one. It just doesn't look like hematite to me. Looks like cast iron.

I wouldn't be so fast to call it metal Yanlin. You can do some pretty nifty things if you polish stone enough.

I've worked with cast iron, it's never that polished.

Can't you just polish it AFTER casting?

Speaking from experience with cast iron cookware, the answer seems to be no. If I recall correctly, cast iron is sort of like pumice in that it's got holes through it. Granted, they would be smaller than those in pumice.

I would consider Edward Leedskalnin a Legendary Mason.

If you believe the stories, this guy apparently violated the laws of physics to build his masterpiece.  To this day, nobody knows exactly how he moved those multi-ton blocks of stone by himself.

I've seen that before, doesn't that have those huge stone doors that you can push open with one hand?

If you read the Wiki, that in particular was a cheat.  He just used an axle and bearings.
