Since November.
« on: January 26, 2009, 03:08:46 am »

Practically each day. Every Week. For a, no, SEVERAL months. I have been running a Dwarven fortess called "Gestud Ner, the Fortress of Lakes". As is implied in the name, the goal of this fortress is to be hidden under a lake- in particular, a Dwarf made lake. This is more easily said than done, as first one must dig thrugh layer after layer of soil, which has the danger of trees caving in. My two initial miners died from falling trees, most likely due to elven mischief. Then, one reaches the rock layers. Here, the digging is not only slower, but produces mounds of rock. More than 21,221 stones, in fact. I decided that they must all be melted, to save memory, to improve the frame rate, and so on. Which brings me back to the time. Since well before last November, I have run this fortress with one goal- the elimination of all stone from the pit. And now, the last stone has been dumped. Soon, I will run the magma-pump to melt all the lesser stone away, and then I can start the great experiment- flooding the pit and seeing if all of the fortress is a watertight as I think it is.

Hmm...

Not to burst your bubble (oh the wit), but I can see some loose stones laying around in there.  Four in the microclase tower alone.  How exactly are you tracking them?  Stockscreen?  Did you build the whole thing out of blocks?

Oh wait, you meant just the pit itself?  Cause now I can see lots of loose stone in the fortress, just not the lake.

To those dwarves who are probably about to die, we salute you.  ;)

Indeed! I was very impressed, and I love the little innocuous log cabin by the lake. Nice touch. It reminds me of the New England Cottage / Nuclear Missile silo from the beginning of the movie Wargames.
