STUPID: Beer pond.
« on: April 13, 2008, 03:51:00 pm »

I'd like to make ponds of beer.
Or wine.
Or any form of liquid, for that matter. Perhaps even urine.

The ultimate idealized defense for my fortress? wall of urine.

I'm sorry I made this thread, but it was almost too stupid to pass up.

Believe it or not, but it has already been suggested... O.o

You won't have trouble supplying the Countess with cats, or producing the annual idols to be offerred to the castle. Every fortress is a pale reflection of Ghormenghast..

Ibod Ramshackle was soothed by a mist lately. (it's up to you to decide if this is a beerfall or... otherwise)

I think that some liquids will be handled in the future like water is. Thus: giant tanks full of beer.

Now imagine the effect of beer mist! It's like alcoholic air!

Screw barrels,

I'm going to build my fort around a 5 story tall vat of beer, their may be a danger of a fort ending beer flood but really isn't that how every dwarfs dreams of going..

EDIT:
If I build a beer well over the beer vat can my wounded dwarfs drink beer?

3/7 Beer + 4/7 Water = American Beer?

All jokes aside, you'd need to find a way for booze and water to interact-- Which could lead to some interesting reactions in and of itself.

Maybe the brewers get a quality modifier and it degrades as it get mixed with water. Like *rum* goes to +rum+ to -rum- to plain old rum and then water the more diluted it gets. Masterwork brewers go insane when you water down their product. May also be a way to stretch your alcohol reserves in lean times? Though what happens when you mix different kinds of boozes then

The real question is: Can Dwarves breathe in Alcohol?

This is already planned.  As in, Toady is planning to implement this already.  Read the dev notes!

This will make storage simpler. Instead of having to use barrels for ale, you can simply fill a ditch with it and have the dwarves stick their heads in

The only problem is, what happens when a fire imp pops up out of your forges and decides to take a stroll through the canals of your just-completed booze Venice?

Yeah, keep the booze-Venice and liquorfalls away from magma/lava.  Far away.

That being said, dwarven booze is currently probably too thick to actually flow anywhere.  I mean, they make it out of pure plant, with no water whatsoever.  There's no way it can do anything but make a stationary, non-flowy mess on the floor.

Which somehow can get cleaned up.  I guess dwarven wine doesn't stain so bad.

Well, they are DWARVES, they drink like, 3 times a day and then if they don't they have to drink WATER!!!! NO!!!

...ahem, all that aside would booze "freeze"? Like in Winter, would you be able to make walls out of BEER?! Imagine:

You look...
...and here we have a strawberry wine wall...
or even:
...and here we have a detailed dwarven ale floor...

THAT would be awsome...

Isn't alcohol's freezing point around -117 degrees celcius?

As for beer, I'm pretty sure the alcohol in beer itself can't freeze naturally, but beer as we know it seems to freeze when you dunk it in the freezer (or if you're in Canada like me: leave it sitting on the windowsill) because of the high water content.

The question is: How watered down is Dwarven alcohol?
