wish there were more alternatives.

Amen.

But hey, the first step to improving the world is seeing there are problems.

-That individuals should know:
--To help others in need, even at great personal cost.
--That happiness and optimism are important parts of life, and that sadness and hard work are too.
--That selfishness for it's own sake is wrong. (i.e., hording money or squandering resources.)
--That self-improvement is a noble goal. (Saving money for retirement, development of skills.)
--That self-illusion is something that one must always take care to avoid.
--That one knows very little in the great scheme of things.
--That those that disagree with you can very often be right, and very often be wrong.
--That all beliefs that can be proven must be proven, and new ideas must be tested and, if true, accepted.
--That everyone has faults, and these must be forgiven.
--That sometimes laws must be broken for the greater good. (Such as an unemployed mother stealing food, or even something up to civil disobedience in the face of oppression.)
-I also believe many smaller things, but these are the most immediate that to come to mind.

I respectfully disagree with some of these statements. I believe that you should not help others at great personal cost. Some parts of people, such as the mind, are never worth sacrificing.  I also believe that being self-centered is not an inherently bad thing. I also dislike the idea that "hard work is important". I think that superior intelligence and wit are far more important. I believe that life can be summed up as "Self improvement, without detriment to others." Eye for an eye, might makes right, knowledge is power.

On abortion, I do not view any human incapable of thought as important. I have been criticized for this, but I view brain dead humans as meatsacks, and that keeping it "alive" is a waste of resources. I think that parents incapable of caring for a child should abort. Better to end a life without potential then waste your own.

Not only is it not actually advertising anything, it's just copy/pasting word salads about gold, runescape, oil, yuan, and handbags.  It's like a transporter accident combined all the spambots into one shambling mass of online sales.

Sex ed can include scare pics of STDs and so on but if it doesn't teach people how to use birth control and protect against diseases, it's not worth shit, because teenagers have always banged each other, and always will bang each other, and trying to deny that is like trying to deny the earth is older than 6000

oh wait
Just on the point of scare tactics: they don't work, all of a sudden people who practice so-and-so go into denial and stuff. Scaring smokers for example, has been shown to make them smoke more because they see dieing as "inevitable".

Heh, that's why I just consider smokers assholes.  They stink, and they dump their butts all over the place.

On the subject of adoption vs. abortion...

Here in Australia, we have a waiting list of 5 years to adopt a child.

Partly, this is because there are so many people trying to adopt children, and not so many children being put up for adoption. However, it is also partly because there is such a huge amount of political red tape bullshit. Most of it isn't necessary; hell, the welfare system here is more streamlined in terms of means testing than the adoption system.

Now, we could adopt a child from overseas- oh, wait, that's right, it's impossible thanks to a whole bunch more political red tape bullshit.

So, ultimately, until the governments wise up and realise the adoption system is fucked and needs to be reconsidered, adoption isn't an effective alternative.

Scare tactics can be quite effective, in certain circumstances. However, when you're a stuffy old adult, and you try and use scare tactics to prevent sex among teenagers whose primary goals in life are to violate as many of the recommendations of old people as possible, and to fuck the shit out of each other, you're setting up for a fail.

What was that line from Mean Girls?
If you touch each other, you will get pregnant and die?
I wouldn't know too much about sex ed, as my country took at upon themselves to place it in the "bunch of knowladge that corrupt children" section, which of course means that I didn't even bump into the term STD untill I lived in the US for a while. My Spanish teacher had to explain it to me because it poped up in the middle of an explanation of what natives in an island died of.

Of course, puplic schools here now have to give these lessons so that people know what is supposed to happen after the marriage. If you know what I mean.

I'm pretty sure I knew the basic mechanics of sex around age 7. I have no idea how; it's just a meme that spreads among kids like a virus. I wasn't corrupted AFAIK
