To see if she enjoyed lesbianism. The control group was straight sex, and the test was to see if lesbianism was more enjoyable.

Wait, so then who's in charge of the experiment?  What group is she?  Wait, what's control group A if B is all straight males?  Am I looking too much into this?  I'm actually just taking a science class this semester... My high school science teacher hated science and knew less about certain aspects than I did.

Explanation:  A lot of people (apparently), when they're in college, are a little unsure as to who they really are and what they feel.  This confusion sometimes leads to people questioning their sexual orientation, whereupon they will "experiment" with someone of the same (or other, depending on previous orientation) gender to figure out if they're straight or gay.  People will prefer to use the unisex and politically correct(-er) term "experimenting", rather than actually saying fudgepacking or rugmunching.

The XKCD twist?  Taking the term "experiment" literally, and in a more scientific and professional capacity.

Ok, imagine you are testing to see which chocolate is better, except in this case chocolate is sex. You have control group A, which is a generic brand from a supermarket. (or males). Incase something is different with the generic brand (cockroaches got into it or something), we have another control group, B. And then, we have the exotic chocolates, the luxury chocolates, etc. (or females). These are tasted by the tester(s) (in the case of this strip, the girl). Whichever tastes nicest (or whichevers sex is best) is then declared best. Get it?

the joke is that there were more than 12 people in each control group, which means at a minimum she slept with 24 different guys explicitly for the experiment.

*at least 12 guys and at least 12 girls

But she said "12 of the guys" so that means there were at least 13 so actually at least 26 people presumably split even by gender

Oh shit you're right there were multiple control groups

Of course I'm not sure what "multiple control groups" even means, by definition only one is the control AFAIK

multiple control groups is to ensure that one control group wasn't tainted, if both control groups match eachother then you know they were proper controls

Wow, that is REALLY ironic. After reading the 9/11 thread  I came over here. I've never read the strip in question so I looked at the website and hit 'random'.

This is what came up:

And it's the one you already saw Muffles post, it's just like when you only see a single episode of a show and when you watch it again it's the same episode.

EVEN more ironic. I was reading critisisms about Tom Clancy for school in another tab and thinking about how wrong this one idiot was (he was talking about how flying a jet into a building was a stupid dues ex machnia and wouldn't happen in real life) when I hit random again and found this:

I know, i really like XKCD too.

XKCD's latest comic, which makes fun of Obama's inauguration speech somewhat, though more specifically at John Roberts.

I wonder how many people will understand that comic in 2 years, or, hell, even 1 year. Seems like something that will be forgotten pretty quickly.
