Fair enough. I just don't want to deal with a bunch of emo dwarves because I forgot to grow extra crack. There's already enough micromanaging with food and booze. Adding more might take away the Fun.

One workaround is to make it a noble-only luxury. Working dwarves are too busy to smoke and shoot up, but nobles are bored and want the latest fix.

If drugs are put in, I don't think they should amount to just another food-type resource. By making it 'your creation' I meant that you only grow as much as you give growing space, so if you grow enough to dope your whole fortress & the dwarves decide to end the fortress in a cloud of smoke...

I have noticed a rather mixed reaction with microcline, but what do people think of olivine?
Oh I love olivine.  I think dark green furniture makes the fortress tasteful.
Wait, what?

Easily available hard drugs typically result in a real life tantrum spiral. It's probably best if we stick to smoking ground kobold bulb out of ≡«+Obsidian Pipes+»≡. It's just gonna get irritating if we need to micromanage to avoid addiction

Nobles being addicts works a little better. Personally I'd make that a particular flavor of the human merchant nobility. Not sure what to call the opium equivalent though

I was thinking more of using drugs to make nobles forget about their mandates more often.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

Might be interesting if drug users sometimes mixed up their senses, like "seeing" music as colors, "hearing" light, or "tasting" heat.

Yeah, synesthesia could open up possibilities for a lot of interesting stuff.

Has the topic of a PCP like "RRAAAAARGH BATTLEDRUGS" type thing come up yet?

I've actually asked one of my volunteers to research it, among the Vikings and the Zulu. So far, they haven't got back to me.  :-\

Reminds of some book, I can't remember the name though (it's set in China). The main character, a farmer, ends up taking care of his uncle who because of social expectations he has to do what he says. The main character gets the Uncle addicted to opium so that hes so drugged up that he leaves him alone. You could do this to nobles

Edit: the book was The Good Earth
