I did see the massive spoiler alert on the Wiki, and thus avoided it. I had the idea something was going to screw me over, so one day while looking for magma using the prospector tool I found a site with the HFS. Needless to say I dug straight for it because I heard it makes a good metal.

Bad idea. It was there I learned traps do nothing. I crumbled with shame.

I wish I was here for the 2D version.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

BTW,I forgot what was the latest 2D version. Again...

Someone needs to add a wiki entry for that.

I looked it up to see what I was missing, since my computer can't handle them.

Heh, yeah I looked it up, I can't help myself when it comes to just looking up random stuff sometimes, and that big spoiler warning turns into a please come and look at this juicy info sign.
Haven't found or dug into one yet, and refuse on principle to use the site finder to find it.
More interested in learning how to do new things from the wiki, my next project is getting a working watermill/waterfall feed going.

Yeah, I looked it up.

I don't think I've ever built a fort on HFS, so really... having it spoiled for me wasn't a problem, since I'd probably never see it anyway.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

I looked it up, found a site with HFS using regional prospector, and embarked with seven miners. Went down, breached it, had fun. Never selected a site with HFS intentionally again. I just wanted to see what the fuss was about.

Because the way most videogames are set up they require you to spoil the game.

How many people won Kings Quest without a strategy guide or hints of any sort?  Probably none!

The only times i have encountered HFS is on nano forts designed for the purpose. I also have HFS at another fort as well as a volcano, a pool and a chasm but I've not encountered the HFS

Being around for 2D made knowing about the stuff beyond the magma river pretty much necessary. Its not as if they made it difficult to find out about.

I've never encounted HFS... then again... I don't find Magma as needed as many of the Vets on the board... so I am never close to it.

Dude, this is Dwarf Fortress. Losing is fun. Winning is only losing delayed. We should keep the spoilers simply so we can read a forum post now and again titled "WTF ARE THESE THINGS"

I remember looking up monsters on the Wiki back in the 2D days. It had a section concerning HFS. I remember it said something along the lines of "Oh ho, if you have to ask, you're not ready." I asked. I was not ready.

You know... There is a reason WHY "Losing is fun" is a joke...

Can  people stop quoting it if they will use it as the justification for everything?

I wouldn't say I spoiled it for myself, but I am aware of it. HFS an all of its associated goodness sort of leak out around the forums. It's practically impossible to avoid learning about.
