"Only one way to find out."

What have I been missing?

Hearing that optimization is in the top 5 after this release means that I can expect (rightfully) that the next release after that or even the one after that will be about fixing some of the horrible lag problems that really just shouldn't be there, but I do need to address a few things.

I should probably make some kind of disclaimer here, for anyone else who's reading: Toady hasn't made any guarantees about what order he'll do the top 10 items in, or even whether they'll actually be implemented -- they're going to get "considered."  It's probably reasonable to expect some optimizations in the near future (I expect them), but I don't want this to get misinterpreted as a specific promise by Toady to deliver feature X at time Y.

I'm sure I remember seeing somewhere that cats can survive terminal velocity and walk away.

NOTE: I do not advocate tossing cats out of aeroplanes to test this.

There's also the matter of including adventurer skills/entities and improved sieges along with the top 10 in the next series of releases, and I haven't decided on the order yet.  But yeah, I'm definitely going to address that when I get there, and there isn't as far off as lots of other things.

Actually, the bones heal much slower than most tissues (as they probably should). Everything else in the preview either has a healing rate of 1000 or no healing rate (either by being nervous tissue or tissue that presumably "heals" by way of continuous growth, like hair, horn, and nails), compared with the bones' 100.
Pretty sure that in this context, the lower the number, the faster the heal.

I have a solution to all our problems - We bind the cat's legs together and then throw it down the 3 meter drop. This way the cat can be considered the same as a brick during it's impact, more or less, and cannot possibly walk away from it's crash site when it's legs break, hence is all the more able to serve it's initial purpose - To act as a crash mat for the brave dorfs.

Since Adv skills inexplicably has dropped to #11, y'know.

Urist McCatcher has been unhappy lately. He failed to preform his duty lately. He had a pretty decent drink lately.

First post updated, cat bug fixed :D

Also, I've only been following DF for the last couple of months but, why exactly was it decided to do one long major update instead of normal updates?

A great many of these break save compatibility, and he didn't want to go "Oh, your saves won't port" ten releases in a row.

Squads and the underground were more as a "so this release isn't purely backstage", as I understand it.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.
