Just for fun, here's a question about the release after this one :p
Given that dwarves often find occasion to vomit, will the next release include something like a vomitorium? Possibly a zone designated like a meeting room or a garbage dump?

No offense, but the color people use for dev questions is limegreen text.  The red highlighting is like visual screaming.  Anyway, did you mean the upcoming release that Toady's working on, or the ones after that?

It was really meant as a joke. :p I don't actually expect vomitoriums to end up in this release or any, really...

Does anyone know the compressive strength of a cat's leg bone?

xD

Hmm...

About the same strength as a whittled down 2x4 of the same size.
Made from pine.
The flesh is dead-on similar to that of tangerines.

<.<

You mean like a dwarf fortress? Or more specifically, the butchers shop.

Just Final Items left to do  ;D

Also, having had the guy who was shaping up to be my Super Awesome Revenge swordsman, after his brother was killed by Orcs, had his spine lightly wounded in a sparring session with a champion.
Therefore, the first thing I will do when I get the new version, will be to tweak the raws slightly, so that the spine can heal very slowly.

He even had a cool looking masterwork set of armour so as to look the part  :'(

Just a fair guess.

I've had my fair share of run-ins with cats.

Nothing violent mind you,
except for when I through an empty plastic bottle at the dumb one on occasions.

We don't even know what the healing rate is for the spine in the new version. At least I have no idea...

We've been shown the raws, not sure where they are; Foot probably has 'em, but the spine has no healing rate.

We do know iirc. In the preview we have seen the healing rates of bone and the healingrates of nervers. The bones heal normal the nerves shouldnt.

Oh, ok.

Hopefully the game will definetly know the difference between a sprained back (brused bone/muscle) vs nerve damage as far as sparring injuries go.

Actually, the bones heal much slower than most tissues (as they probably should). Everything else in the preview either has a healing rate of 1000 or no healing rate (either by being nervous tissue or tissue that presumably "heals" by way of continuous growth, like hair, horn, and nails), compared with the bones' 100.

It depends on the hight. To low and they cant turn around and to highthey break there bones. This said i want to see a cat fall from 2Z-levels unharmed.

...

Math time!

Cats don't land flat on the floor like a brick - their entire body is designed to absorb as much shock as possible. There's also the reported "flying squirrel" effect, which is dealt with pretty fairly here

Well, yes, they use their legs to increase the time of the collision, but there is only so much that can do. Like how airbags in a car will allow you to survive a large crash, but it's not like you're going to be able to walk away unharmed. They lower the peak force, and lengthen the time of the collision between your face and the surface, but those forces still have to go somewhere.
