I don't think building large structures out of bones is very feasible for... well, anyone. It would take a pretty ridiculous amount of engineering to do properly, unless you just mean "hiding out in an elephant ribcage with a big sheet of something thrown over it for shelter".

Of course, that's why they live in caves.

So potentially with all the underground work going on, kobolds will have towns/cities in caves now?--Thndr
What kinds of buildings should kobolds make?

How about adobe huts? There was already mention about the animalmen having hunting base camps of a sort.

There are archeological sites in eastern europe where humans made dwellings out of the bones of large animals such as mammoth (covered with hides).

Meh. Why not? Seriously why not have that as an explanation, what if anything is wrong with it?

I was under the impression that adobe was unfired.
Ya but how are you going to have dwarves haul non-unitized clay about? I guess you could do it with buckets.

IMO, the process should be to designate a clay gathering area zone and a clay stockpile, and each zone generates a gather clay job if there's an empty space in a clay stockpile.  Each job produces a clay chunk that is automatically tasked to occupy one of the spaces in the clay stockpile.  A job at the kiln can turn one clay chunk into a brick block object.

OR just make clay produce usable chunks the same way stone layers do.  (in which case, ignore the suggestion about raw clay constructions destroy the clay when deconstructed... don't want to destroy a non renewable resource)

allow clay chunks and clay brick blocks to be used with building, but give clay chunks a value of 0(and, ideally, make clay chunk constructions that are deconstructed destroy the clay chunk, whereas bricks could be reused)

For everyone talking about clay/pottery/adobe, you should know that it's already a dev item:

Quote
# Bloat77, CLAY, MUD, ADOBE STUFF, (Future): Can use the kiln, have glazes, etc. Bricks.

And that we've had like a dozen Suggestions threads hashing out every possible detail:

I don't remember seeing this, but I'll ask anyway in this version will we be able to assign rooms to positions like "mayor" and so forth, rather than to individual dwarves?

Doesn't sound like that made it in this time:

Maybe im being hopeful but could this entail assigning a room/study to a noble position and if the dwarf in that position changed, they also change rooms? IE, new Mayor is elected, the old one gets kicked out of his old room/study and the newly elected Mayor gets them.

Yeah, that's probably a bit hopeful -- my aim right now is just to get it working at all.  All of the previous hard-coded room/etc. values for different unit types are gone, so it needs to be updated in that way.  I think I noted down the idea of linking up nobles to rooms when it came up before (similar to the idea of a Governor's mansion in real life or whatever), but right now it's just another dev note languishing off in schedule limbo.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Except that's not even built out of bones. It's adorned with them on the inside.

Seriously, that's kind of like saying that my house is built out of wallpaper and light fixtures.

Perhaps kobolds would all live in one large tent made of a patch work of cloth and leather stolen from other civs, with a single fire in the middle and kobolds sleeping in a circle up against the edge of the tent. There would always be 2 kobolds awake guarding the door with their spears/copper daggers.
