I noticed something about nomads being mentioned around page 120 or so but I was curious, any word on whether nomadic civilizations will be possible in this coming version?

Also, Toady.. you rock.  Just had to say it.

There is already semi-nomadic cultures if a town is taken over or destroyed.

I say semi mostly because as soon as they settledown they no longer become Nomadic.

Though there are two kinds of Nomads that I am aware of

Roaming and Migrating

More in the way of a roaming civilization, or even a roaming group of hunter-gatherers.  Perhaps set with a short list of location types to visit, desert, forest, plains, desert. You get the idea.

Something similar to nomadic pastoralism perhaps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomadic_pastoralism

Actually, does water hurt firemen? I never tried.. (for shame, I know.)
I thought the first sentence sounded too much like flaming on it's own so I added the others to try to make it more explanatory. Guess it didn't work.

Firemen don't breathe so I doubt it.

To my knowledge water vapourises the Flamemen assuming they were made of fire.

No no, firemen show up to put out fires, riding their Giant Truck (tame) mounts and wielding +hoses+.

I'm curious: has the "non-starving dwarves chow-down on live vermin" problem been fixed, or is a fix for that is some future version? (It being a problem when the vermin are things like purring maggots/moghoppers/fire snakes/etc that you want to milk/extract)
I think thats an actual feature, to a point. If dwarf likes to eat said verming, they'll usualy attempt to eat it if they can, but I've only seen it happen with caged vermin though, never saw a non-starving dwarf actively hunting for vermin.

I think the bug is that caged vermin are over-prioritized for eating.  I remember reports of players never being able to tame vermin because dwarves would always snatch them up to be eaten, even if there was plenty of normal food around.

That is indeed the bug; mildly hungry Dwarves will charge all the way across the map and breakneck pace to get a chance to chow down on a squirrel.

Hi guys,

Toady has come down with the flu and has been sick for a couple days.  There will be no dev update tonight, but hopefully the future will be brighter tomorrow!

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

OT: With the random creatures in the next version how will we be able to add graphics/tiles to them if we are using tile-sets? or will they be letters like in the ASCII version which I wouldnt mind at all  ???
