will players be able to set the population for when the economy begins thus the arrival of the baron and then the population required for the baron to recive a new title ans for the king to arrive. as well as being able to set the population required for official sieges and elven tree_diplomats to arrive?

I just realized, after adding the new body parts to the other races, that I have an entire squad of dwarves with a shield in each hand and swinging their axes with their penises. There's nightmare fuel for those goblins, in more ways than one.

I don't suppose that there is any public beta available for download?
I'd love to start trying out the version as it stands, in fortress mode.
Dwarf Fortress is still in alpha. So, no, there isn't one.

I don't think he does that. Ever. Like it's not playable anyway.

Well, Toady is obviously playing around with stuff, else we wouldn't be getting funny anecdotes about what is going on.

Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

Horrible, horrible, game ending bugs.  And general unplayability.

It is an awsome that needed to die

And be reborn each immigration wave.

The DM is definatly a cool noble to have around. At all levels one of the more detailed, and useful positions in the fort. The fact that it is somewhat out of your control, even more than regular dwarves is a bonus.

Well for Dwarves we need to combine the idea of a Mine with ideas of underground cities/locales.

Since Fortresses are basically both

Indeed.  Mines, cities, and occasionally tombs.

It is an awsome that needed to die

Oh you take that back.

You can set the population trigger for sieges at least, yeah.  Not sure about the others though.

As was already said, it's far too broken to be released, and the time he'd spend making it playable with quick fixes would be much better spent finishing it.

I love regular updates.

Maybe the cloaks and hoods allow you to tame the exotic animals.

Well surely they eschew clothing to help them better identify with ratmen and lizardmen and the like? The cloak is merely there to help preserve their [PREFSTRING:mystery] or in dire situations their [PREFSTRING:terrifying features]

Looks like an end of the year release is becoming a possibility.

I know toady said that its not likely, but I'm bieng optimistic here. It just depends on how long the rest of this stuff will take.

It was always a 'possibility'. In fact, at one point it was Toady's honest estimate. But an end of year release has become increasingly less likely, to the point where it is now very, very, very unlikely. Being optimistic is great and all, but no point in setting yourself up for disappointment.

The only thing that can make the game release ontime is if all of a sudden Toady finds absolutely no problems in coding.

Mind you that is like writing the perfect 100 page essay on the first try.

The talk about cyclops' using spears relates to something I've been wondering about, namely with underground creatures now using equipment again, will above ground creatures like animal men, ogres, gnomes etc also use equipment?

I believe he's said aboveground animalmen are less developed, but friendlier.

It's so good to see so many greened out items in the lists. I feel like a kid in the back seat on the long drive to the candy store.

I like it, too, that Toady honestly updates his estimates for release time rather than giving false hope or just refusing to comment.
I hope he does release before March, though, because I'd rather get those days or weeks of frenzied nonstop DF out of my system before uni starts up again  :P

Hmmm, ~36 complete items left on the lists. I know those could be way variable in difficulty, but it still seems like the end is in sight!
