Yea, I thought I had heard they were hardcoded, but I also thought that we might be able to create new ones in the raws. So I wasn't quite sure.

That sounds more like something the poison would make your dwarves do. Atleast having a cold is hardly a power.

Since fever is on the list of poison effects, I wonder if it's just a state you get like "hungry" or "exhausted" or if it has an actual associated temperature.  Then you could have bizarre negative fevers that chill you to death or a fever so hot you burst into flames.

What would be the game effect?

Almost seems like 'Negative Thought', with a severity and a flavor text would be a great symptom.  Chills, Aches, Depressions, Sores...  All sorts of 'descriptive only' things that make you miserable.

I was doing some random Sphere generation and I really get some weird results. While I realise that it isn't entirely random it really makes me wonder how some of these things can fit together.

Here are 5 generations of 6 Layers (My generator isn't exactly random)
-Coasts, Victory, Minerals, Weather, Birth, Fate
-Deformity, Misery, Day, Animals, Poetry, Travelers
-Healing, War, Lies, Night, Fire, Forgiveness
-Order, Hunting, Jealousy, Family, Dicipline, Food
-Rainbows, Chaos, Water, Dusk, Weather, Luck

It is more conceivable when I limit it the layers. but as you can see they are all over the place.

I kinda wanted to make a suggestion thread where I made these make sense in some sort of "Come up with ideas according to how the randomation goes" but it was just so random my mind exploded. Though I guess I could just limit the amount of Spheres per example or include Parent and Precludes to my formula. I think Ill reorganise my generator.

Oh if anyone here wants me to randomly generate, Ill do it for a while.

Edit Addition: So I revised my generator and I got: Dusk, Lust, Twilight, Depravity, and Rulership

Edit Addition: So I entirely revised my generator, it should make a lot more sense... if much more uniniteresting.

Also just to show my generator is much better:

-Fortresses, Truth, War

Hmm somehow less interesting... and likely still not up to par, but it is the best I can do I guess.

Ideally, the system should have a number of spheres, plus bonus spheres that are linked to any spheres within the set; it should also check for silly contradictions (like Chaos and Rainbows as mentioned above)

Chaos and rainbows are perfectly reconcilable.
Rainbows and darkness? Not so much.
Rainbows and caves? Gem caverns.  Giant geodes? I think?

I've done a bit of reading

Rainbows and Darkness do not interfere with eachother. (likely due to Toady's wish to make Precludes rather lax)

Yeah I got it working under that method right now. It is no longer entirely random. Well sort of.

Part of the magic of random generation, however, is resolving the strange and bizarre combinations that arise in ways that stretch your mind beyond the conventional tropes of video game events. Given two bizarrely contradictory spheres, I would like to see the game come up with something astounding.
