I should state that technically speaking the Drops are relatively harmless in that they shatter too quickly to form shards.

I mean they move 4000 miles per hour and they don't do squat to their containers

Oh no, I wasn't thinking that the glass itself would be all that dangerous, until you got it in your eye.

Glass + contact poison, however...

Out of interest, what would happen fi you replaced the water they make those things in with contact poison? or add into the glass itself?

glass is fairly nonpermeable.  Anything you could lace it with probably wouldn't absorb readily into a body, and if you just poisoned the water, only the outside surface would be poisonous.

And the nature of how those things are made means you couldn't really have it be hollow and filled with poison.

theoretically, you COULD roughen the surface a little, or drill very tiny diameter holes in the glass, or, would this ruin the structual integrity? or would it simply be impossible to do?

Dwarves do not dig tiny holes. We hollow out mountains!

Also, a possible trap application could be:

___________i___________
__________ O ~~~~~~~

i is the tail of the drop, O is the ball. i gets smashed or touched or stepped on or whatever, O shatters and magma/water can pass. Could also work upsidedown or sideways.
Of course this would require very big drops. But dwarves make everything big so why not?

As a bonus: If I read correctly the ball itself can't be shattered, only via the brittle tail. So it's good for adventuring puzzles.

"Urist McHater was horrified when someone he had a grudge against was made nobility."

Might be fun to find the most hated dwarf in the fortress and make them Duke, causing a tantrum spiral of Doom.

Oh, the lolz.

With tempered glass (which is the kind of glass that shatters this way in the first place), it would be impossible to do.

If you shattered a large number of them and got the particles airborne, they could fill the lungs and cause a slow and painful death.

I somehow don't think inhaling sand once in your life is going to give you silicosis.

Also, I'm not sure glass would really count, since it isn't in crystalline form and might not pose the same problems. Who knows.

Although inhaling glass dust doesn't seem like a great idea, either way.

uh, it'd be very tiny glass shards, rather than sand dude, id be more worried that my lungs, throat and nose would be made into Mince rather than developing silicosis.
