How about this: if Toady decides to do Legends exporting in JSON or XML, I will personally make an interconverter. It's pretty trivial if you have any experience with regular expressions.

Though boiling blood is an entirely more serious issue. My opinion on the matter: there should be more of it.

Was that on contact with the magma man or was it an area of effect thing? If a Magma man is that hot, then a SOF must be absolutely horrifying in the new release.

Of course though, you'd kind of expect that if you stuck your hand into lava.

Even in 40d, magma men are the same temperature as magma (that is, 12000), and SoF are temperature 25000 (technically hot enough to melt adamantine, though it'd take forever due to its incredibly high specific heat). Most likely the human was foolishly trying to wrestle with the magma man, since one of the updates for DF 2010 was adding heat transfer from wrestling (aside from what already happens if you're standing in an adjacent tile, which is more than enough to make SoF totally deadly to melee fighters even in 40d).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Unless you had a bucket of water handy.

I just want more/all info to be exported regardless of format.  Give me the data and I'll make cool toys to play with it.

There was kind of a violent explosion of boiling human blood when I was testing a human vs a magma man in the arena...

Any chance we could see the combat report of that?  Or any new combat report, really.  I don't recall any examples being released before, and I'd like to see how things differ with the new tissue layers, among other things.

There was actually a combat log sample released along with the Arena sneak preview. Still, seeing the combat logs of this one (if they didn't get deleted) would be interesting, so I agree with this.

Found the old one! http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/imgs/arena16.png

Still, blood explosion sounds like something to read about.

Can we see the raws for spears, swords and crossbows? I want to see how stick chances and ranged weapons are handled.

I misread and thought that the dwarf managed to injure the guts with a blow to the leg. Seeing as it sent the gnome flying it seemed plausible.

Heh, when fighting magma men with dwarves you might have a boozesplosion, considering the typical BAC.

Also, I'd say Avatar does share one aspect with dwarf fortress....really fine world-building.  Best alien planet I'd EVER seen made for a movie.

And yeah, I immediately thought of Bears discover Fire when I read the devlog.

Not to mention the floating rocks....

Giant trees are plausible though, just look at the Redwoods and Sequoias.

Actually there were some plains and coasts too. Anyway Avatar reminded me more of Albion then DF. That said the Navi way of building is similar to DF-elves and eywa(?) could count as Nature spirit. There wasnt enough !!HFS!! for the amount of the mined adamantine Unoptanium.

Also they swaped the soul-structures! James Cameron must be one of the nether mentioned pre-release Testers!
