There are more... dark methods of data protection, but I will not speak of those here.  :D

I see it now, penning the binary directly into an unholy book with a cover of human skin warded with a dozen satanic wards, with bits of code directly from The Windows Vista in strategic locations to drive any uninitiated readers insane...

This is nonsense. Care to explain? You must have lot of experience with external HDDs.  :P

I certainly don't have any experience with the legendary everlasting hard drive, though I have plenty with the other kind.

You are exaggerating.  ;) I have a working 40GB ancient HDD even. I am using it since lot of years. [I am storing movies on it. When it's full I copy everything to DVDs...not that DVDs are everlasting either, but ah well... ;D]

Use steganographic techniques to hide the data in bittorrented files of extremely popular movies. Seed forever. Now THAT's data redundancy!

Thought of another question for Toady, which I don't think has been asked.

Will the new material effects be able to transfer some level of cold/heat/whatever resistance to someone wearing that material? For example, let's say we had a highly heat resistant creature who gains their heat resistance from their skin. If a dwarf is wearing leather armor made from that skin, will it give the dwarf some amount of fire resistance?

I think clothing already confers some insulation benefits, against cold at least.  People in cold areas wear more clothing, at least, although maybe it doesn't actually have any effect.

Does that explain why my dogs freeze to death but my dwarves don't?
Is it clothing or innate insulation that matters?

Anything associated with Windows Vista (or just Microsoft) can be considered an infernal pact with the hungry maw of Satan.

It's right there in that contract they make you sign, that nobody reads.

Sadly, I can't think of too many movies from a hundred years ago that are still all that popular. Maybe Nosferatu?

Encrypting information into song bits might be the better choice.

Ofcourse, I'm certain film schools will keep quite a few movies alive and exchanged, for many years.

I actually read the whole license agreement when signing up for Xbox Live.  I swear they write those things as obtusely as possible to dissuade people from actually reading it...  Though there wasn't anything that bad in there that would need to be hidden.  Just a lot of really dry legal recourse that they can't possibly be expecting to use.

That's anything legal, ever, though. The law is a twisty labyrinth, especially the types of laws that have to do with international rights to intellectual properties, when coupled with the possibility of technology-theft.

I for instance would just had installed a Suse Linux and then i would have run vista and all wincrap on a virtual machine. What do you think about a SSD-HDDs?

Clothing is under the "Update (temperature) layering effects" point i asume.
Well i hope too that clothes get some blocking on temperatures. As long it works also isolating on the dwarf. I wonder too how this works.

Ello!  Some of you might remember me, it's been awhile since I played.  Perhaps six months.  I think I am going to hold off to play again until this next update, which looks like it is going to be awesome.  I have a few questions for it, though.  Please say if these are already in, or are already planned to be in.

Is the manager screen going to have continuous and threshold jobs?  By threshold I mean, if I have less of X of this item, queue up jobs for it.  This is a fairly important issue for me, because it's annoying as hell to have to deal with randomly canceling jobs.

Is there going to be less hauling overhead?  Right now to get a fortress to run smoothly you need a disproportionally large amount of haulers : working dwarves ratio.

Is the health care going to be better?  It's annoying when dwarves don't take care of someone who needs it.

I dunno about the others, but health care has already improved significantly.

Yeah, Toady will improve that part of the game, in fact it's planned for the next release.

-Health care up to the point that a dwarf can generally pull through what should be non-mortal trauma
-Simple surgery/setting of breaks/etc.
-Make dwarves clean themselves up and groom/trim their cosmetic tissue layers before they sleep

Oh, cool!

Okay, but what about the management screen and the huge amount of overhead?  Those two are the most annoying issues in my mind.

There has been no mention of changes to the manager screen or hauling overhead for the next version.  Those are both very popular on Eternal Suggestions Voting which means there's a good chance they'll get implemented in one of the versions to follow:

In any case, the idea for the release *after* this next release is going to be to tackle one of the main army issues (improved sieges or sending out armies) as well as to take honest stabs at the top 10 or so entries from eternal suggestions (farming is currently among them), and there will probably be another item or two from dev_next that isn't from the Army Arc, though what we want to do from among those constantly shifts.
