I agree with a changelog, but thats just the way this type of forum works, I don't think it can be changed to have a changelog.
Still it would be awesome for purposes of animated graphs/lists/progressbars/etc.

Also for the release prediction junkies, imagine having more than two data points! ;)

By my count it's 26 items left on the list, and there are still 42 days in the year (counting today).  That's 16 days to play with over a 1-per-day baseline for tasks that take longer.  Of course, it's easy to imagine more than 16 days getting eaten up by longer tasks, distractions, holidays, HFS, etc.  Some tasks, especially some of the "Update foo" ones, could take less than a day.  It's still possible some items will be punted on (candidates I see: rope ladders, weapon legends, drills/practice on free time).  January 1 may not be it, but it shouldn't be too far off the mark.  I'm not worried either way; if it's not done by then, we'll be within spitting distance and know it.  I'm just excited right now that squads are almost done, at which point we'll be in proper home-stretch territory.

Yeah, he said "I can probably wrap it up in a week" about the underground, so that's certainly not a one-day task.  I think smjjames' prediction of a release window extending back to two weeks before New Year's is unrealistic -- I'm guessing more like 3 days before to three weeks after.

Anyone have ideas what the breaks/drafts solution is?  Seems like it might be tricky for the game to distinguish that exploit from legitimate last-ditch recruit-everyone situations.

I was just giving a nice wide window. But yea two weeks before new years is a bit unrealistic when you think about it for a moment.

Well, if you undraft them immediately, it's unlikely you were intending for them to go to battle...

Well, breaks are going to be more useful in this update, used for hygiene and stuff, right?  So if you never let your dwarves stay on break penalties could develop from that

Yeah, it could put a cooldown timer on the undraft, if that was what you meant.  But then what happens if you draft your starting 7 to fight off some fire imps and can't undraft them for a season or something?  I suppose if it just kept you from undrafting for as long as the break would have lasted (if it was during a break at all), it's okay.

I think the hygiene stuff is only done before bed, not sure though.

edit: according to the only quote I could find, it's just done when they decide to take the job:

Quote from: dev log
Any water splashed on to a creature, item or vegetation will wash any clingy contaminant filth on to the ground (blood, vomit, mud, etc.). Dwarves can also take a job to clean themselves up. It's still a little up in the air as to whether they'll be able to sneak drinks when they do these jobs, as that would save time but also rob them of precious alcohol unless they start drinking alcohol when they aren't thirsty (which wouldn't be that mindboggling)... however it might need to wait for party rewrites and so on to be at its best. If I don't change it I don't think the extra cleaning job will be that disruptive of a time sink, since cleanings are done fairly infrequently overall, even if a dwarf's feet/shoes constantly become caked in filth, and dwarves that are stuck drinking water can still sneak a wash.

Toady one:The DigiPen talk was fun... I was pretty burned out by the end, but I finished an easy break item to keep things going.

Oh no Toady one is socialising, rather than working on DF! I think it's a good thing, selfish reasons aside.

This talk about progressive challenges due to digging deeper and unending attacks just makes me anticipate the next version that much more. The current version shows a lot of development potential, although being a bit limited itself. As long as next version comes out before February next year, I'm estatic.

It's okay if he's socializing. He might get an agility increase out of the skill gain, and logically he will then work on DF faster.

Or he could take stock of everything in his fortress house.

And just think, if he became a Legendary Conversationalist or something he wouldn't have to pay rent anymore.

That actually brings up an important point: He's a Legendary Programmer, so what exactly is it he uses our donations for?

no...just rememb er how long on breka you're s'posed to be. Then, undraft, still on break, but no crud if you needed the soldiers and don't wanna leave them drafted.
