There are several reasons why a spider of that size, but not the structural changes to support it,

That's why i said 'really grew to that size.'

If we excluded every scientifically impossible mythological creature we would be stuck with the boring ones.

Heck we wouldn't even have Dwarves or Goblins.

Since natural immortality is currently considered impossible by SCIENZE, then we wound't have elves, goblins, dragons, titans, hydras and a whole bunch of fun™ stuff.

Yes and no. There are organisms that are technically immortal in that they do not age, or can 'reset' their age cycle.

Or creatures that have never been observed to die of old age, but from limiting factors. like lobsters.

Apparently Galapogus Tortoises are the longest living creatures in the world, with a life span of 3 to 5 hundred years.

There's a kind of Jellyfish that reset's it's life cycle, returning to it's Polyp form, when it 'dies' of old age. Assuming nothing eats them, they live forever.

Thats exactly why I support Jungle dorfs, desert dorfs, blowgun dorfs, steam and whatever the community suggests. if DF is gonna make its own trope it could very well be the DORFIEST URIST MCBADASSERYNESS trope ever!

Clearly you haven't read some of the awful crap that people have suggested.

Maybe the longest living ANIMAL, but the prize goes to some trees such as the Redwood which have lived for many centuries, even a few thousand years.

*blink*... I believe we are, in fact, talking about sentiency.

Actually - I can argue that a very very large amount of trees would live longer than the Galapogus Tortoise.

no, no , no you are getting me all wrong.
of course there are people who think that atom bombs and lasers would make DF fun,
what I am really talking about is what is or isnt "dwarven enough" and how people tend to believe that DF should be like tolkien or D&D (what is clearly false, right?).
Fox example, the blowgun discussion: really, whats so wrong in having a dorf with a blowgun?

it seems too D&D to me the idea of "I cant touch this object because my class/race doesnt allow me to"

when I said "whatever the community suggests" I didnt really meant "absolutely whatever" but "reasonable whatever".

I for one cannot wait to see what "The next big project involves similar stuff down deeper, on a much more grand scale than the previous incarnations (those being game-ending timers and little glowing pits with a few this-and-thats)" is  ;D
