Physics is the beginning of all science.

As a physicist, I know I can always annoy a chemist with the following:
Quote from: Ernest Rutherford
All science is either physics or stamp-collecting

Although a mathemetician friend of mine likes to point out that physics is just a small branch of applied maths.

The argument is usually settled when we all agree that at least we're better than biologists...... ;)

Hehe Computer-science fills the gap between Mathmatics and physics quit well.

I annoyed a physicist once by saying something like this : "Physics? Nonsense i make my own Rules."

Nope sorry but Philosophy is the beginning of all science.

Well ok I guess you can go even further but then your going outside a field and more into traits held by human beings.

Though this isn't a productive area of discussion anyhow.

In fact how the world did this thread get derailed?

I'd say, a lot of science types borrow from each other, so they are just different ways of handling of standard models, with exceptions.

Also, yay for the Champ update :).

I am mostly glad Toady cited his Q and As

I don't know how many people even know he actually answers their questions.

Not even indie I don't think.

Many Indie projects basically give you the silent treatment forever and then complain that you keep asking the same questions.

I NEVER shoot people in the head.

How else would I bite their head off?

'Operation green-skinned shield' ^^. Slave-fighters would indeed be neat thought the chance for disobeying, running away and even mutinies among them would be higher i think. Better to get this guys for farming guarded by some marksdwarfs with there dogs.

Having slaves fight is a bad idea. It always has been. Slave fighting and the employment of mercenaries has ALWAYS resulted in negative effects. Slaves and mercs should only be sent into the killing fields, suicidal missions without knowing so.

Swiss Halberdiers?

The thing that confuses me about dorfs is this. Dorf 1 dies in an avalance or somesuch. Dorf 2 is friends with dorf 3 and dorf 1. Dorf 2 berserks because of his friends death and kills dorf 3. also a friend. W. T. F.
Clearly you've never been drunk.

With the new smelter reactions, will it be possible in ANY WAY to artificially create dwarves?

No, unfortunately.

Will we be able to smelt creatures in the smelter (or any other workshop) in this release?

Nope.  That'll take a significant job handling rewrite.

What a bummer :(

Thanks though, I guess I missed that post.

slave soldiers were done, and with varying success.  it wasn't always a bad idea, and in fact could be a brilliant idea.  you are also quite wrong with mercs as well, although i doubt i need to show much proof of that since it is much more common.
