I was under the impression that you played the collective unconsciousness of the dwarves
Fixed :)

Well, if you assume that all major projects are directed not only by expedition leader, and you control pretty everything like army and peasants and allocation of everything, then you play the role of "collective mind", so  you have no manifestation, but you take the part of the AI role which is unrelated to dwarves' personalities.

Like in any strategy: you're the leader, you're commands flying over the battlefield, you're the immediate thoughts and actions of every unit... You're a collection of individuals' actions, duties, needs and ideas.

Y'all are nuts.

We're a dog in a room with a giant computer, controlling the entire world.

No, no no no no.

We're people... Playing a game.

Let's shake hands if you want but soon both hands are gone, A-ha-ha!
Cut me down like a tree like the lumber or weeds, well discard who you please like the leaves off a tree. Drag me out of the sea and then teach me to breath. Give me forced health till I wish death on myself. Ah! Ha! Ha!
March on! March on! March on! March on! MARCH ON!

It's Armok controlling them, that's the only logical answer.
Why else would they butcher kittens and randomly sentence each other to a spike-filled death?

Simple: The mayor just mandated adamantine items even though they're in the middle of a swamp in the middle of nowhere, and everybody knows that the hammerer is a bit overfond of his job. As for the other problems...do you want cats shitting everywhere when they haven't invented litterboxes? Butchery is the only way to make their deaths useful.

From Mr. Welch's 1350 things he is not allowed to do in a RPG:
148. There is no Gnomish Deathgrip, and even if there was, it wouldn't involve tongs.
171. My character's dying words are not allowed to be "Hastur, Hastur, Hastur"
218. No matter my alignment, organizing halfling pit fights is a violation.
231. I am not allowed to do anything that would make a Sith Lord cry.
240. Any character with more than three skills specializing in chainsaw is vetoed.

At the meetup, somebody gave Scamps a toy you all agreed to call "the thing" or something like that. In any case, Scamps has chewed that in half, and he plays with both parts now.

Whichever Bay-Watcher gave Scamps the aforementioned thing, please step forward to claim your prize. Also, please explain to us exactly what this "thing" actually is.

The expansive sandbox-iness of the new one cut down on the vein of impending doom.

The dev log is usually dated when my day starts, and I usually date the list whenever I edit it.  Same with the rss feed (not the displayed date in the title but the actual tagged date).
