I'm mildly impressed that this thread hasn't busted the board software.

Maybe when the people with the highest posts-per-page setting hit page 1000.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I don't think this thread will last that long really.

Only one major crash left to fix? Release.. it's close? Holy shit.

this is more like a reply to everyone saying one major bug left...

As a random crash bug, the possibility exists that there is actually more than one bug causing a "random" crash or that there are multiple points that feed in to the crash.  Just saying.

Toady One punches the crash bug in the upper body.
It explodes in gore.

Oh, it feels so close!

If the new release of DF will herald the apocalypse...

perhaps it won't come out until the thread hits page 2012?  ::)

Maybe when the amount of pages overflow an int:P

Go to the download page for 40d plain - there are Mac and Linux versions. The d19 stuff added OpenGL optimizations but the Mac and Linux native stuff was earlier and already fully merged. So a pre-merge DF2010 would still be playable on 32 bit Linux natively.

You don't have a spare machine running windows?
You don't have a hand-me-down Macbook?
You don't have windows installed in a partition?
I know Linux runs more quietly and whatever, but seriously?
Having a Windows machine or partition is a direct violation of the GNU/Linux code. It's like treason to them.

DF is like treason to them, since it's not open source.  In fact, some open source programs are looked down upon because they aren't "free" (they don't have a viral license).  FOSS fanatics are weird

Be glad it was only that. I wanted to work in June and July somehow, but decided against it. I think it would've made people too August.

I can't figure out any link between what you quoted and what you posted.  Good job posting trolltastic insults in FotF, though.

So, all things considered, release should be about ~1 week to go? or is it still some arbitrary "when it's done" ETA?

Read through page 1000 and up twice, but still confused by the wildly varying conclusions drawn by everyone.

I'm staying pessimistic. Most of the last 10 pages have been people blowing off steam. They have no idea when Toady will release and neither do I.

The dev_log entry they are referencing didn't seem to hint a time for the release, let alone one in the next week.

Mainly we know there are testerS - not just Threetoe. Second, he mentioned a bug he wants to fix, but some others that we may have to live with. That implies release is soon; certainly before the end of April.

Ah, I should say that I was talking about 17 releases over a short period being a bandwidth problem.  I think a release a week will probably be okay as long as I've got a few mirrors working.  I'm not really sure, since we haven't had a delay this long for this many people before.

This is what they're getting it from, even though that's not what it says at all.

For all this implies it could release tomorrow.
