Ugh. Why did I read this thread while eating vegetable soup?

And what do you mean to some extent?

Its one of those eventuals.

How many versions did we have to wait to have the soap maker be functional?

Is it weird that I'm really looking forward to having to make soap next version? Maybe it's a sign that the game is too easy.

I don't think it's odd at all.  This game thrives on details.  The more details, the better.

Sweet, that's... what, 5 items left? How much more troubleshooting do you think is necessary before the release is ready? (Just wondering, I don't want to appear pushy or anything ;))

Honestly, the best answer is "when it's done", and I'm not saying that in a snide way. New feature coding has ceased from what I can tell so all that's left is bug fixes and final integration with the other 40D# branch. Unfortunately as anyone who has any dev experience at all will tell you, both 'bug fixes' and 'integration' are generally giant question marks.

Personally I'm loving reading the dev log now. All these little teasers are fun to read about and you can also tell how huge the scope of the feature changes for this release is.

Scarpa has a point. There is no real way to tell. That is way Toady hasn't blued anything.

If they were predictable, they wouldn't be bugs. They'd be on the to-do list. I guess "when it's done" is when Toady and the testers are reasonably sure that we can get through a game without something hideous going wrong.

If it's any consolation, it seems like they're managing to get a bit further through a fortress. There's less "The dwarves' eyeballs turned to magma on embark and then the game crashed" type bugs and more wierd non-gamebreaking quirks that only become apparant after a while. The kind that the version will inevitably ship with, and people will actually be sad when they're fixed.

I wish he'd do the more specific stuff (like the hydra test) before he went into the random bugs that remained, seeing as how it's so difficult to see progress now...

Anyone know if the system for the "outside/inside", "light/dark" and "above ground/subterranean" will be changed at all?

Nope, I'm pretty sure that things will stay the same as it is now, anything exposed to the light will be enternally labelled inside/light and above ground, even if its a spot 10 z levels below the surface with flooring over the hole of the shaft on each level.

No prob, heh.

When I asked, he said that he had apparently fixed it earlier since the message spam from that bug was getting annoying and so he did something about it. He found some sort of vermin hunter condition in there. Not sure what exactly that means, but hey, glad its fixed as well.
