[40d] Gender Check on Gods
« on: January 20, 2009, 11:49:58 pm »

This probably could be discussed first, but I'll post it and see what happens.

ūz Etar Amud, "ūz the King of Thunder"

ūz most often takes the form of a female dwarf...

I know that they are gods/goddesses with wily ways and there are ample references in our own mythologies to cover this, but I'm not sure it was intentional in this case.

The problem here is that the words in the RNG(Random Number/Name Generator) don't have genders attached to them. You could just pretend that uz crossdresses to look like a female.

Which is fine. Are you going to tell the god no?

If you do, he'll just manifest the ultimate form of his Purview and--in one way or another--get around it.

Wait.  I'm thinking Scion.

(Ultimate manifestation of The Way: "take me to a universe where he didn't say no."
Ultimate manifestation of The Judge: "Over-ruled."
Ultimate manifestation of Chaos: "That no you just you didn't say because at that moment that you said it, yes meant no and no meant yes because things are crazy like that.")

Ultimate manifestation of Chaos: "Make Me.")

There fixed it for you.

Man I hate it when people abuse WW's losely worded uberpower sets (At least outside of a joke setting, so you're probably ok ;))

TBH I only observed a portion of a game a friend ran and didn't read the rules.  It was his big finale before he graduated and left town: Scion from Hero to God in 11 weeks.

It should be noted that not only did they destroy the entire universe, one of the players predicted it would happen and used Ultimate Manipulation: "If my friends destroy the universe, I want to be the first one back when it restarts."

Though it often gets me stoned to bring things up like this, 'king' was historically an ungendered term. It was only in British English that the female consort of the king became known as a 'queen,' and -- should the queen have adopted the office of the king -- the 'queen regnant.'

Though there are some things in the game that one might raise the argument for associating to genders, this is one that I'd like to see left as-is. British English is dumb, anyway. ;)

(Seriously! They have like eight different words for 'lake!' Arghh!)

Heh... You have to give them some credit, they did sort of create the language. Or at least the Angles did after the conquered britain.

What are they?  I can only find 5(Lake, Mere, Lock, Oxbow and Tarn) of which, 2 are very specific.  Related are Pool and Pond, which both refer to smaller bodies of water than "Lake," though they are slightly different in their connotations.  Lagoon, though not always used such, generally refers to the fresh water presence in an island's surrounding sea.
