South, south, south, south, face east.

North, east, east, east, face north.

Also, I shake Wimdit's hand. He is a true Northerner.

Not me though. I didn't also accomplish the same thing.

I think it's time to start messing up you southerners.

And yes, Strife, I saw the same thing with the Swordsdwarf. That's why I chose him. But, think of the defensive value of a Swordsdwarf. 1-5, with a -1 from the front, -2 from the side, -3 to the back.

So, 0-4, -1-3, -2-2. Versus a spear, 1-10 on attack is 1-10 vs. 0-4, which is already a 50% chance of winning without rolling for defender. Sure, it's a bit unfair about the extra movement, but you stay in teams for a reason, and that's to protect each other.

Also... Come out, come out, Pandar... Or will you stay in there all day? Duke, pepper 'im with Bolts of Lightning! I'll cover you.

Strife, your fluff will make an excellent headband.

Actually, I was just saying that to be nice. It'll be a pretty crappy headband if you ask me

The problem is, a player with superior movement, shouldn't have to defend, they can ensure that they are able to attack all of the time. In a worst case, a hostile might be able to move twice, right?

☼+++=+++=+@+
First turn, the zefie moves to the first =, then on the second turn, he can only make it to the second. Provided that the sword user (@) keeps nine tiles spacing, he can have definite attacking advantage.
At the same time, it allows the sword user to close and attack whenever he wants, first turn he moves four over (staying out of hostile reach), then, provided that he gets the next turn in quick, he can close and strike, with no risk of being on the defensive. Ever!

 South all the way.

Alas, this is Manezza and not any character of mine that shoots lightning. This is an Indiana Jones-like character. If he could get a whip he would. Alas, taking a page from La-Mulana, a mace on the end of a whip is considered a whip.

I'd hope not, lest we all grab swords (which might be the smart thing).

I hope we can. As it is now, we all probably perceive our own weapons as weak. It would be good if we could switch, so we could get better ideas of weapon balance as individuals. Besides, no one has an axe, so that weapon would be left almost totally out of a post-game discussion.

That's another thing that I noticed, why would anyone use an axe? Compared to a mace, you get 2-8 vs 1-8 on the attack, but there isn't that much of a difference.

There is. I'll make a chart in a minute.

   1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
  2X   A A A A A A
  3X X   A A A A A
  4X X X   A A A A
  5X X X X   A A A
  6X X X X X   A A
  7X X X X X X   A
  8X X X X X X X

Red is the mace, A's are victory for the mace, X's for the axe, and nothing in written for ties.

Chance of the axe getting higher is 28 out of 56. Mace is 21 out of 56. Tie is 7.

The possible rolls for an axe attacking are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. The average roll is 5.

The possible rolls for a mace are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. The average roll is 4.5.

If an axe is being attacked head on, it's average is 3. A mace's is 3.5.

The difference may be small, but it is still important, especially in an offensive tactical plan. That said, I would happily switch to an axe, if only to prove that using one was viable.

That's taking a purely one-dimensional aspect of this. Sure, in a one-on-one battle, a swordsdwarf has an advantage against most others. Here's some stats:

The top row is the attacking weapon, and the right column is the defending weapon. The chances are the probability that the fight will be a failure for the attacker. Yeah, I spent time doing that.

The first value is head-on attack, then side-on, and then back attack.

Anyhow, look at it and see if there are balancing issues.

There is. I'll make a chart in a minute.

Curses.

Still, I'd switch to an axe to prove a point.
