Old feature, is it supported anywhere?
« on: January 19, 2009, 03:25:38 am »

I remember back before the graphics of the new Df versions, that you could designate whole areas to be dumped. I know it isnt possible at all anymore, but is there some sort of mod that could accomplish this?

d-b-d should do it.

You can also mass forbid, reclaim, hide, unhide, and undump items this way.

ohh thats a good joke, Toady would never remove a feature from DF, he would only move it.

You'd think so.

# Core25, PLOT CLEANUP, Completed: The dwarf mode used to have some fixed plot events, like an attack by an undead army and so on. These were excised, but there's a lot of associated cleanup needed. Once this is established, the game will be ready for armies.
# Bloat157, EXCISE SOME OLD PLOT STUFF, Completed.

I'm using v0.27.169.33g right now, and it isnt there. I remember the feature well, and it is no where to be found. I will upgrade to the newest version after I finish my current game. Or is it possible to transfer a save file to a newer version?

Hello!

Actually, this makes me wonder about something. Is there a shortened changelog available for DF? I mean, reading Toady One's diary is hilarious at times, especially when some unexpected bug or drunken crocodile shows up, but it is not always easy to get an overview over things.

This is also of interest as there are so many versions of DF available for download. For instance, concerning the undead invasion, when was it eradicated? In other words, which version would be the most progressed version still having the feature?

EDIT:Thor2axe: See the download page:

PLEASE NOTE: Saves from v0.27.169.32a+ are compatible. See "release notes.txt" for details.

So, you should be fine (theoretically (^_^;; ). Just don't overwrite your old version during the upgrade but copy the save directory of the world into the newly installed version.

I think I will just stick with my version, if that feature is not in the newest one. Though, I look forward to the update after I finish this game.

But you have a good point. I would think that noone has compiled this, as it is just comonplace to ready what the gods, or just Toady, hath wrot.

I think the undead invasion was eliminated long before the switch to 3d. IMHO, the only version other then the most advanced that is worthwhile is the last 2D version. Forget which one that is though. 2D had more direction then the 3D version but far fewer features and openness to it.

Release notes.txt in your DF folder, though I don't think that's really complete with every change it at least gives you a general idea.

As far as the undead invasion, I'm not sure it was ever actually working in the game - if it was it was very early on, I never played a version that had it anyway. I'd guess that if there is one with it, it'd be missing so many features it wouldn't be much fun to play anyway (I can hardly play even the most recent 2d version anymore).

Hi!

Thanks for the hint.

I agree that the 2D version was way tougher in dwarf mode (just thinking about surface farming, my main food source). But it did have its ups (I have the impression that cats were fiercer back then - I recall them earning names by killing of underground river invaders.

But then again, given Toady's creativity and love for detail, the circumstances of the undead attack would probably be worth seeing.

And the versions available for download do go back very far, it seems...

Am I missing something? When I downloaded the newest version, it was still 2D. From what I can tell from what has been said, it should be 3D.
