The military recognizes the fortress gaurd's condition. We would be more than happy to comply, and send gaurdians as backup for the... overtaxed guard. the military would also like to extnd support to the metalworkers in their suggestion of a new shaft, on the condition that the military be givien choice materials for armaments. furthermore, we would like to commision the glessworkers of our great fortress, to construct a monumental tower of clear or green glass, to the brave dwarves who have thus far fallen against the goblin menace.

The Crafter's Guild recognizes the military's commission of the fortress, and wholeheartedly support the construction of a glass tower in honor of our fallen kinsmen. However, while the glassworkers will be the ones creating the glass, it would be the masons who would construct the monument, as they are the ones skilled in architecture. Furthermore, we would prefer the commissioned monument be constructed from clear glass, as the ingredients ultimately involve the lumber that the woodworkers would harvest.

Melbil Zimkellrigoth and the Farmer's Alliance returns to the Council Chambers to picket, with such entertaining slogans as "Don't mess with the people who prepare your food!" and the ever popular "No Food for Thought?"

The Farmer's Alliance petitions any undecided members to give their support for a seat on the Council representing the farmers of the fortress.

This is the best thread ever. It's the fun of participating in a legislature with none of the responsibility!

In response to the misunderstanding by the military and the metalworker's guild, the woodcutter's guild does not imply that the military cannot afford better protection than the woodcutters.  We only state that the woodcutters can take care of themselves, whereas the masons are not as tested by numerous scouting expeditions.  Therefore, the military would have to babysit them, as it were.  Do you really want to call up all of your men and send them into the wilds for several seasons on long patrols?  Your men may become unhappy with that situation.

In the words of a famous dwarven general, "He who protects everywhere, protects nowhere."  ((Real quote from Sun Tzu's The Art of War))  If the military must stretch itself so thin in order to protect the masons, then it is possible that a goblin ambush could slip through undetected.  We do not wish to insult the military, nor feel that they are inadequate in protecting our great fortress as it currently stands.  We only wish to express concern for our mason brothers' safety.

We would also like to thank the mason guild for their clarification of the project, and ask them this additional question: is the expansion intended to surround the whole fortress?  If so, our objections stand, and we regretfully oppose your proposition (though your courtesy is much appreciated).

As for the near-insulting remarks about undwarvenly we woodcutters are, we would come back with the remark that we are Dwarves!  We build fortresses in the mountainside, not sprawling towns like the humans.  We woodcutters take to the surface to procure what is needed for our great fortress, and then return home to hearth and stone, happy that we have a military to keep us safe, and masons who keep stout roofs over our heads.  We do have the best interests of the fortress in mind.  How would a wall increase our wealth?  It would increase safety for the future, but at the cost of safety now.

And to the thinly veiled threats given by the metalworker's guild, we would like to respond that our population growth has stagnated since the royalty arrived.  Odds are there will be few migrants arriving in the near future.  The metalworker's guild has not seen much use lately either.  Perhaps they would be better serving the fortress elsewhere...

If such an expansion is mandated by the council, then the woodcutter's guild will send out scouting expeditions to keep our military well-informed of incoming attacks, thereby allowing them to allocate resources as necessary.

Turning now from the matters of surface expansion to the other business that has been proposed, the woodcutter's guild offers it's support to the Crafter's Guild's wise decision that clear glass be used in the monument's construction.  We also offer our support in the Metalworker's Guild's proposal on new exploratory mining shafts, despite their apparent dislike of the woodcutter's guild.  We would also suggest to them that the stocks of Iron we currently have be used to make steel armor for our great military.

Finally, the woodcutter's guild would like to call to vote the issue of the additional council seat for the new Farmer's Alliance.  Opinions have been expressed, and it appears that thus far, we are all in agreement.  The woodcutters guild votes Yea!

The Engraver's Guild will once again express its appreciation for the Farmer's Alliance by voting "Yea" for their seat on the Council.

It will also support the Metalworker's Guild proposal for exploratory mining shafts for the purpose of finding more useful ores to be used mainly for providing equipment to our soldiers.

Additionally, the Engraver's Guild is in favor of the constructions proposed by the Mason's Guild. We will also gladly offer our engraving services for use in these constructions to further beautify our fine fortress, document our history, and please our citizens.

In response to the vote for allowing the Farmer's Alliance a seat on the council the Mason's Guild wholeheartedly votes 'Yea'!

Now in clarification of the expansion, we wish to wall off the area in the northwest portion of the map, the area currently surrounded by our brook and the borders of our fortress. We want to wall off that small area in a semi-self contained unit. The building already on the north side of the brook will be used as the beginning of the construction. The idea is to create a larger area for the harvesting of outside materials.

It is true that we have a small area that is currently enclosed in our fortress proper, but the Mason's Guild feels that the expansion will not only increase the available wood to our fort, but also be an excellent area to start an exploratory shaft for more metals as well. The area can easily be used for other purposes as well. A second floor on the construction can be used as a sun deck and outdoor training area for the military so that they will not develop the ... sun-sickness. And finally we wish to cap off the construction with a clear-glass roof! Yes I am suggesting a three-dwarf tall wall with a large relaxation area. Yes this shall be a large construction, but it shall bring great prestige to our fortress.

We are a mountain-home already. Our prestige among the our own kind cannot go higher. Now we shall show the other races of this world that there is nothing that we cannot do better! Nothing we cannot build higher, stronger, or faster! Our constructions shall last far into the future, far long after our children's children have been laid to rest. But our names... our work here.... it shall last in these works that shall be unmatched by any others!

The Fortress guard would like to express it's gratitude to the military for agreeing to it's conditions and would now heartily support the stoneworkers construction.

We would also like to give our support to the farmers alliance so that they may be a part of this great council.

Concerning the woodcutters guilds statements about the metalworkers, rather than them "serving the fortress elsewhere." (Directly quoted from the guildmaster of the woodcutters) It would be better use to have them continue as they are and setting the miners to try and find access to some higher quality metals, then the miner's and metalsmith's work shortage crysis will be solved as would the military equipment issues.

(You know, you'll need at least a basic idea of a plan for your masonry project before it can be built...)

The recent news will be placed on the main thread, but I'm going to put condensed editions of the results of the Council's deliberations here, to keep things relatively convenient.

Seeing the tragic events of the past few days, the woodworker's guild would like to offer its deepest sympathies to the Metalworker's Guild, whose leader has lost a daughter, and to the Farmer's Alliance, who have lost a skilled comrade.  We would also like to call for an investigation, to determine what happened that ill-fated day.  We demand that the parties responsible be caught and tried!

The Farmer's Alliance will second the call by the Woodworker's Guild for an investigation. We extend our sympathies to the Metalworker's Guildmaster. Whoever performed this monstrous act on our number must be caught!

The Engraver's Guild would like to extend its condolences to the Metalworker's Guild and its masterful Guildmaster. We will also ask for an investigation into this matter.

On a completely unrelated note, the Engraver's Guild would like to express a sudden change in mood. We request that Inethbim be placed in prison, perhaps again for a life sentence, but that he be given some space to engrave on.

We would also like to state again that the Engraver's Guild's sudden change in judgment over the fate of the "rogue engraver" Inethbim and the shocking death of the Metalworker's Guild Guildmaster are completely unrelated, with no relation to one other whatsoever. Not so much as a thread connects the two.

The Royal Guard has, as a preemptive action placed the Royal Guard that found the dead farmer in protective custody. Zefon Thakastesh, as Commander of the Guard also formally announces that said Royal Guard is innocent on all hypothetical charges, and has merely been placed in his position to protect him against mob violence.
