What I've always wonder is how a single dwarf could mine out 100 units of the stuff but an ancient demon capable of single handedly raping your entire champion military (And not just the tenticle demons!) is stuck by one z-level of dirt...

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Well that's a silly question:
because it does not have a digging utensil!
Even giant Wyrms need picks for their teeth when eating rock.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
