Gems!
« on: January 16, 2009, 08:43:03 pm »

This isn't a problem or anything, but it is extremely awesome.

Last year, my leader ordered 200% or every gem on the order screen. Nothing else, just gems.
Well, this year the caravan came. They appeared, with a train of wagons. I go to trade, and start buying up the gems.
20 pages of gems. At 13 gems a page, that's 260 gems that I'm walking away with after this trade.
Holy F*ck

20 pages of this

Also, 6 wagons. What the heck is Kapok?

Kapok.

That's pretty awesome, all right. How long does it take to train a legendary gem setter again? :P

I think it generally takes 300-500 jobs to go from no skill -> legendary

Yeah, I used to order gems alot to encrust things and thus consolidate my wealth. Trading 1,000 stone toys for 100 gems, which get encrusted on to 10 separate toys frees up alot of room in the finished goods stockpile. It also generates and insane amount of new wealth once you have a legendary +5 gem setter.

Unfortunately, it's difficult to figure out which gems are worthwhile and which are crap without printing the wiki page out, easier to just full order all of them then buy all of them. That's quite time consuming though, and I don't like pressing down-space over and over for 10 min every time the traders come so I don't bother with it anymore.

I sure with you could full order whole categories and that traders put gems in bins - would make it a heck of a lot quicker.

That's a lot of gems :O
And some expensive food...
On a semi-related note, is there any faster way to select what to buy than a Down -> Enter rotation? :(

That's quite cheap, for food. Dwarven cheese roasts are insane, especially if you make the cheese from imported milk.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Guess I'll have to make a legendary cheesemaker/cook/brewer combo and get some sick meals :p

You can at least order things by just holding down+right (allow a few extra cycles through list depending on how high you want the priority), so holding down+space might work.

You who've used autohotkey, can you perhaps give a short hint on how to set it up so it can repeat something like [down, enter]?

I finder it trickier than dwarf fortress to learn.
