Wrestling wolves
« on: January 15, 2009, 10:34:44 pm »

I got involved into a fight with wolves and after a while they, almost as if in an act of despair, started to graple on me and even give joint locks, what is kinda strange for wolves to do... thought they did had bitten me so far but winhout much success. Do creatures change tactic if what they are trying is no working? :)

I believe they only wrestle if they are lying down.  They wrestle with their legs, which they use to stand up, so they cannot wrestle while standing.

The wolves were beaten up quite badly then they started doing this, so I suppose this is indeed the case. Thought it would probally be smarter for then to keep bitting :)

The wolf grabs your right arm!
The wolf releases your right arm!
The wolf grabs your right arm!

Repeat ad nausem as I am attempting to strangle the damn thing. GAAH.

first wolf i met first adventurer i had ripped a peice out of my arm by grabbing it and shaking me.

it spat it out, so i picked my arm chunk up and threw it back at the wolf, killing it in one hit.

i had trained throwing before i did anything else, like people recommended here on the forum. since learnt that one hit kill throws are pretty rare, but as an into to adventure mode that was so awesome.

if what demonic gophers says applies everywhere, its interesting that four legged things may only wrestle with their limbs when they are lying down, thus not using them to stand. thats a really neat game mechanic, that it lets any free limb be used to attack and wrestle with. its adaptable to all kinds of crazy made up creatures.

Ya, really neat indeed, thought then you generalize something for such a large variety of creatures there will probally be some weird results :)

I once exploded the rear half of a black bear by throwing a mace at him with throwing skill only in lv2 (thrower) and we hadnt even engaged in combat yet. There was also one time then I got a scimitar stuck on my leg and, after killing the owner, removing it and dragging myself out of his house, threw it at a charging guard, also at lv 2 throw: It hit in on the head, causing him to fall inconscious and subsequently die of the wounds... throwing meele weapons at enemies is awesome :)

melee weapons. i like giant adamantium serrated discs and similar trap components. they do so much damage and weigh nothing. and i once got really lucky when a tentacle demon disarmed me and threw me on the floor, and i found a stray arrow that when thrown bought me the time to stand up, find my axe and finish him off.

also, if there was a stand on one leg command i can imagine that the any free limb is usable wrestling mechanic would be pretty amusing. the town guard grabs you around the neck with his left leg.

Don't try to wrestle stuff with NO_PAIN tags. Ugh.

I was once getting ownt pretty badly by a GDS... down to almost dead, severe injuries to the head and lower body. Scorpion had a few broken legs, but they don't feel pain so it didn't matter to it. So, in desperation, I tossed a coin I had in my backpack at it.

One hit kill, right through the head.

Well even with "No Pain" Eye Gouging and Limp disconnecting is still an effective strategy.

...limP  disconnecting? And if you meant limb, you can't do it via wrestling. Sadly.
