Sensing potential amusement
« on: January 15, 2009, 07:32:29 pm »

So one of my Humans (Yes, I play Humans, Bite me) went into a macabre mood and collected all of his items and set to work. Early into his work I was checking the building to see what materials he was using and acidentally forbid (or marked for dumping) one of the materials. Now, I thought that this would cause him to go nuts so I immediately set them back to normal. A few seconds later a peasant came and to said object back to the stockpile, the guy didn't stop his construction, but when it was finished it did not have anything of the removed item on the artifact.

So... This brings forth the possibility of choosing or recovering artifact materials as well as influencing what the main material will be. So you could theoretically remove all the items except for say cloth whenever a metalsmith is making an artifact and end up with a silk longsword.

Is that potential I smell?

I'm fairly certain this exploit is known, if not well documented.  I know I've heard it mentioned before.

Really? I've never heard about it.
How far back was it discovered?

What? Weapons? Be a true dwarf; make your CLOTHES out of STONE!

Damn, id hate to wear that though.

"This is a marble left sock. All craftsdwarfmanship is of the highest quality."

At least it'd be easier for dwarfs to beat people to death with their clothing.

Cutting someone to ribbons vs. cutting someone with ribbons, hmm, fun.

I use this exploit all the time, it lets you choose between the varieties of each class of material, but you can't use it to completely avoid, say, all metal (i.e. if he wants metal, he will use metal, if he wants silk, he'll use silk). This way, I have managed to get a steel axe inset with emeralds and star sapphires, circled with platinum and menacing with spikes of marble. As opposed to a tin (circled with tin) axe with green glass, wood opals, and siltstone spikes.

"Yeah. My plan was to drop some kittens into the siege, and have my dwarves freefall into battle, landing on top of the kittens. The plan was kinda dumb though because the kittens were standing on grates, and the goblins killed them with arrows just as I was releasing the freefalling dwarves. So the dwarves weren't able to land on kittens and just fell and died."
