I am playing "kill one of ever creature and in the game once" in adventure mode and in my first life started as an axe dwarf... killed 10 dwarves, among wich 4 soldiers. Then I found 2 globins fighting ratmans in a distant outpost... killed a ratman, then I attacked the globin, the other immediatly hit 4 arrows on me and I died :)

If the towers had fortifications, they would make great ranged platforms. However, as it stand you were just lucky.

I have had records of taking out entire goblin towers and temples before. Never tried dwarven fortresses.

But let me tell you, any highly-populated site that shares a tile with a chasm is the most fun you'll ever have, as you climb the dark tower and find bloody remains of guards fighting various chasm creatures.

Ah, yes.  I remember coming to the aid of a goblin tower in such a situation.  The tower even had a demon, but eventually the endless waves of chasm creatures killed everything.  I discovered that fact when my adventurer was swarmed by no less than 20 monsters at once.  I'm talking 2-3 rows deep surrounding him.  Then I lost my axe in one.

Wasn't pretty.

What you mean with "lost my axe in one"? Did the axe got stuck in the creature that was also sent flying? That would be some epic demonstration of bad luck :)

My axe got lodged in the head of a troglodyte or something of that nature, but since I was surrounded by more than a dozen enemies it was a case of "one falls, another takes its place."  Since you can't grab things in adjacent squares I was never able to pick up my axe again.

The funniest thing about it was the fact that I carried several weapons for this exact reason.  The spear I used after I lost my axe was lodged in a different creature which backed off after being stabbed, and I ran out of bolts with my crossbow before getting my weapon arm broken.  It seems the monsters in the game never break the shield arm until just before you go down.

I eventually over-exerted from counterstriking with my shield too much, and they eventually finished me off.

In short, helping fortresses under siege by chasm creatures makes for some badass adventurer deaths.  Goblin fortresses seem to be built near them more often than dwarven fortresses, which may explain why goblins hate EVERYTHING.

Hehe, I remember of walking on an icy area at night, barely able to see anything, and starting to receive reports of all sorts of creatures battling with globin guards out of the dark :)

I thought towers did have fortifications around the edge of the roof.

How many beasties did the demon take down before it was overcome? I'm curious.

Alas, the roof is quite a bit up there. Being up there several times, I know you can't see the ground to save your life.

Not sure of the exact numbers, but every time it used fire breath it would take down a handful.  Ironically, the demon died from burning to death, rather than through force of arms.

Hello!

Just something I wanted to point out. As far as I know, as a default, the game will log ALL anouncements in a txt file in its main directory. With the messages in there, you should be able to get a count if you wish to.

It has been a while since I used the log, so I am not sure about the details. But I think it has no init option and is easy to find.

thanks deathworks, ive wanted to check out a few of my old adventurers for entertainments sake.

demons and dragons and things are immune to the flame they create themselves, but not to the fire created by objects that are on fire. so they have a tendancy to die in fires they start, especially as i imagine your demon was standing in a corner of the goblin fort surrounded by burning bodies.

i embarked on a fortress site that had died from HFS, and arrived right next to 2 demons right there on the surface next to my army. they started a huge fire that set off all the trees and grass around them. only 4 dwarves survived. it seems that the invisible skin that stops creatures from falling into a brook also stops them from putting themselves out in it. it was really funny.
