Dare I ask about the name? "Love" doesn't sound like my cup of tea.

RTFM, or in this case, read the fucking link. The name does not tell you about the game. Dwarf Fortress could be a shmup where you blaze through fortresses of bloodthirsty dorfs. Honestly, Love looks awesome, I hover in anticipation.

Love still looks interesting. I'm... cautiously eager for it to come out.

Downloading the Infinity Combat Prototype to check out the engine, as there's little else to do for that one but wait...

Parkan II looks like.. Tranquility (I think is the name). But costs money. Tranquility is pretty good, at that, but it's somewhat linear, so I wouldn't call it exploration...

Also downloading the Evochron demo...

I guess this is all the feedback I have so far. Which is to say, not much. I'll let ya'll know how it goes. Also, if anyone knows about the "Wanderer" game, please let me know. I'm kind of hoping there were more updates that I missed.

TIG Source or whatever it's called had a procedural content competition a while ago.  Some pretty neat stuff in there, including a procedural planet "exploration" game. (As in, explore the place to find stuff to shoot/loot)

http://www.tigsource.com/features/pgc/index3.html

Check out "Mujakwi". Planets are generated based on their name, so you can type in "Earth" and you'll fly there and shoot baddies.

Those look cool.  I'm going to check out that planet explorer game.  All the other ones too!   ;D

EDIT:   Sweet!  They made a shooter out of Conway's Game of Life.   8)   I wonder how that works.

Googling "love game" could lead to some interesting results.

Also, I agree with Fenrir.  Noctis is just flying around staring at hideously ugly planets that all look basically exactly the same.

The only real variety is in the Felysian planets, and their colors are so messed up and pixellated it looks like Missing0 threw up on the screen.

"Love"   isn't what people first think.  It's a game were a bunch of people get to make stuff on a random planet.  I have almost no clue what the goal is, but it looks really nice and playing with others would be fun.  There's a trailer too here,

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/10/15/love-video/

EDIT:  I just watched the trailer again after I linked it and it looks just awesome to watch.

Explore, explore!

Noctis is a DOS game anyway, you expect it to look nice?   ;D   Started in 1996.

Now don't take this the wrong way, but that Love video looked like it was stuck in a perpetual Morrowind Ash storm.

I hated those damn storms. Every time I see atmospheric clouds I look up for cliff racers.

So yes, remove that effect and it would look very good.

If you remvoe the blur effect then it would look sharp.  I don't like sharp, but I bet there would be an option to turn off that blur.

For me the blur gives it a mystery to it and adds flavor.  The only thing I don't like is the people right now, they look like a bunch of geometry shapes stuck together.   ;D

EDIT:  I mean look at this guy!    ;D

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is a previous version though.

No, I don't, but that doesn't change the fact that the graphics are beyond hideous.

EDIT:

On Love, totally gonna build a huge tower, blight the land around it, and--OCEAN TOWER

That's what I'll do, build a tower in the ocean.

I remember reading that it is going to be pay to play though.   :(

An ocean tower would be awesome though.

Unfortunately, it will. With the DF community working together, that game's name has the potential to be highly ironic.

I wouldn't mind so much if the whole point of the game wasn't to fly around and look at these hideous and featureless planets.

Not just look. If you find an unnamed star/planet, you can name it. And upload your starmap to the global archive. Of course, with that system broken (it no longer works if I remember right), there's little point, but there you go. That game, when it was working, had more interesting gameplay than Spore. You could search for felysian planets in the oddest locations - I found one at a class 9 star and was very pleased with myself. I want to fire it up again sometime and search for a felysian planet around a red giant or some pulsar...  There's also the various interesting things you can look for, like a planet with the largest amount of satellites, or the most faraway/closest planet relative to its star. I also remember trying to reach the edge of the galaxy, and failing. :P

One interesting challenge is to find a Solar System lookalike. I never found one so far.

What are you all saying? Noctis is boring. All you can do is fly around the galaxy and look at stuff -- really boring and ugly stuff. I can handle bad graphics if the gameplay is good, but there is no gameplay.

You can fly a ship? I've tried Noctis dozens of times and all I've managed is to fall out of a window from some kind of flying saucer and then fall down into outer space.

Once you learn the controls you can go to any star you see and travel to any planet you want in that system, moon too.  Then you select where you want to land and off you go in your little basketball pod.

I have As astra too, the Star Wars music is cool.   8)
