I took the statue from the Aesomatica tileset. Many tiles are taken from commercial games, either by me or by the tileset makers I've drawn from. There's various Zelda sprites in there, some from Lupin the 3rd, one or two from Final Fantasy, and a few from ASCII's RPGMaker 2K. I've tried to scratch sprite wherever I can, but if I can't outdo the pre-existing sprites I can find, I don't feel compelled to replace them.

Side note: The next update will include Hoppy Dragon's goblin drunk and human druid sprites. Waited far too long to plug those in.
Excellent to hear this, and if you need any other sprites, let me know and I can take a crack at them.

Thanks for the encouragement. I haven't actually played DF in quite some time, so it's tough at times to maintain the motivation to work on this. I actually got sucked into building my own Roguelike :p. I am a developer first and foremost, so this graphics pack has been a huge departure from what I normally do (part of the reason I did it in the first place).

I'll try to package up the updates I already have ASAP and blast them out. I'm going to keep coming back to work on this, but I think the Roguelike will distract me for a while.

It'll take some time before I'm ready to post it publicly. The earliest you could see an alpha release is about a month from now. There is a lot done already but there's still a couple of systems to put into place, and then I need to spend some time dumping content into it.

I'll be working on game-related stuff all night, so there ought to be a release by early tomorrow.

Question: Considering that I am using a lot of Sphr's work and several others, do you think it is ok for me to use my tileset/graphics across DF and my own roguelike? I really want to be able to reuse all of my work in both places.

Normally (as in, in general) you would have to ask permission before using Sphr's work in anything other than DF. While he would probably be happy with a mention in the credits, it never hurts to ask, just to be safe. :)

Yeah, normally I would do exactly that, but I have no idea how to get in touch with him. Seems to have left the DF community at least a year ago, and he never made any email address public. I guess I'll have to stick to a big credit mention for the time being. Of the sprites I have, I think I did about 1/3 of the full roster myself now, anyway.

No update yet, sorry. Spent the whole night writing dungeon generation code.

Well, if you can't contact Sphr anymore, I'm pretty sure that a mention in the credits would suffice.

Hrm.

Honestly, I don't think a graphics set can make DF do something like that, though I'm not sure what would make that happen.

Might want to post your troubles in the bugs section...

That does look pretty good, but it doesn't allow for engravings. In order for floors to look different when engraved, some part of it has to be transparent. Unengraved floors will show black in those areas, and engraved areas will show white.

As far as I know that can't be related. You didn't use my init files with one of the 40d# versions did you? My init files included in the mod are only compatible with vanilla 40d. Some time earlier in the thread someone posted an init file for 40d#. Not sure if it's still valid as of 40d15.

Not to bad looking if you blank out some of the black lines (or just give them 50% transparency if using one of the d# with alpha support).

I wouldn't turn all the lines full transparent, however, as that makes the engraved tiles -way- to bright for, my tastes anyway.
