meh i thought that being immortal in mythology just tended to mean that nature couldnt kill you through disease or old age so that you would be eternally young. However someone could, and in the case of Greek and Norse gods did, kill you if they tried.

The day ended with some kinks left to be worked out, though I've come a long way from where I was this morning with nobody having kids and all the gods dying of old age.
I think he was saying that gods shouldn't die of old age, and that it was one of the many kinks he worked out and is breathing a sigh of relief that it finally isn't happening, since it shouldn't.

Yeah, in terms of what I was talking about, Footkerchief had the right idea.  Gods are treated like historical figures like everybody else, and there was a mixup causing it to apply the old age code to them, so they were all dying off in the second year.  Now, the reason gods are treated like historical figures is so that eventually they can manifest and run around in worlds where they actually exist, but that won't be done until it's done.  There's nothing really preventing it from being the next thing to go in, but that's true of many, many things.

Unless you're the god of giant cave spiders and hidden fun stuff.

Then it takes THREE arrows and FOUR coins. Coins made out of obsidian! Impossible you say? THAT'S why you're a GOD! ;D

Winter.
But that god got killed by spring

Who got killed by summer, who got killed by fall, who got killed by winter...
A wonderful game of rock-paper-scissors.  It's amazing we still have seasons.

Needless to say, having gods being actual creatures in the game would be awesome.  I know adventurers can "talk" to gods right now, but mine never seem to say much.  Anyone ever had a god respond?

Maybe the gods usually lounge around on some higher/lower plane but occasionally go to the material plane to do stuff.
Just like old Greek ones did. They were immortal and powerful, yet they could come down and get some Earth girls laid *cough, Zeus, cough*, and generally unleash shit on humankind. And Greek gods are as godly as it gets, I think DF gods are closer to them than the gods (God) of Abrahamic religions. Once old age death is fixed, we're cool.

Bah, DF gods are closer to Norse gods.  Loki killed his own brother as part of a practical joke.  Odin removed his own eye for a drink at the fountain of knowledge and did it without a second thought.

Norse gods are bad ass.
