A little musical piece for DF
« on: January 12, 2009, 02:02:39 pm »

Hi all, I've been viewing the forums for a while and wanted to share a little music something I made on the guitar with the community.
It's called 'Approaching the pits' and is a bit sinister.

Anyway I hope you will listen to it and maybe share some of your own music inspired by DF :)

And it's the song called 'Approaching the pits'. Thank you.

edit: oh and all feedback is greatly appreciated, negative and positive :)

Well, to be honest I didn't like the first minute of the song. Afterwards however it became much better and something that could be very well related to DF.

Tempted to agree with Skyrage; it does have a nice note structure, but it isn't immediately predictable. It does have that menacing quality at times. Overall, solid!

I rather like it. It reminds me vaguely of Toady's music work in Dwarf Fortress, but also of background music in some other strategy or adventure games.

Sounds pretty good. It might be better if you cut out the first minute, but it's pretty awesome either way. Make some more!

Yeah, it reminds me a lot of the original Diablo music. Very cool.

Ehh, it sounded the same to me the whole way through. In my totally inexpert opinion, the feelings the song conjures up don't match my expectations of what a song about breaching the seals to an ancient evil should sound like.

More menace! More tension! More build up to a climactic end!

Keep at it, though. I'm interested if you make more of these songs.

I'm not really a fan of the part from about 0:44 to 0:48, but the rest I loved!

Great job overall! =D

I'm with Jim Groovester.  It was an excellent piece for setting an eerie mood, which may have been what you were going for, but in my mind, demon pits need a little more oomph.

I like it, though it strikes me more as being something suited to the early stages of starting in a haunted or sinister biome.

Demon pits, i'd picture more as being a slow, sparse and suspenseful build up until the piercing and uncovering of the demons, then a faster and more active part to convey the horror of it. Not that i could hope to even come close to doing something like that myself, given how little musical talent i have.

Still, it does feel very fitting for DF and makes me wonder how it'd feel alongside the game, in place of the usual loop.

I like it :3 .
It doesn't seem quite hardcore enough to fit breaking into a pit full of demons, but it sounds pretty damn good.

I like it all the way through. I think the three-note melody/figure in the beginning could be elaborated/developed a bit more to liven up the intro a little. It's a bit too stilted now, although mostly that's great for the mood of the song.

Thank you all for taking your time listening to the music and for your honest replies :)
I agree with you on it being not sinister or menacing enough to describe the dorfs breaking into unfathomable evil, demons etc. I'll try to improve !
And I'm very happy that you ask for more..I'll have some up tomorrow.
thanks :)
