Domestic Petting
« on: January 12, 2009, 01:21:49 am »

I am currently bored of the dog and cats and am seeking more interesting pets such as Giant Cave Spiders and Unicorns as pets I can start off with (and not have to struggle for an hour setting traps near their watering spot and capturing them one by one [in the case of the Unicorns]. As well I feel War Horses and War Mules arn't Dwarfy enough...

I added the [COMMON_DOMESTIC] tag to the Giant Cave Spider, nothing happened. I moved them into the creature_domestic text. (A bad move might I add, now I can get " " Meat for free and it crashes Dwarf Fortress...

How do I get my War Giant Cave Spider? I know I am missing something, but I don't know what...

I think you have to add the [PET] AND [trAINABLE] tags to it

That's one of the first things I did when I figured I could go into Chasms and capture myself a GCS

Yeah, the [PET] tag is what you need, with the [trAINABLE] tag to train it. As for why it crashed, if you move a creature from one raw file to another it counts it as completely deleting a creature, and then completely creating a new one in another raw file, both of which would require a new world gen.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

lol, it's all there, I intend on moving it back soon... (I figured for some reason that animals in creature_domestic are the only ones that can be made into domestic animals due to something I am missing)

And I generated the world before trying the COMMON_DOMESTIC, which is why I am wondering why I am seeing the blanks.

Is it also a PET_EXOTIC?  That might lead to problems, perhaps.

You need:
[PET] tag for it to be tamable (or [PET_EXOTIC] for DM taming)
[COMMON_DOMESTIC] for it to potentially be available from embark
[trAINABLE] for it to be able to become a war spider
A civ with access to a giant cave spider to actually embark with one. After starting, you may be able to trade for it, but possibly not
You may also need to allow them to breed (add a baby tag, potentially a littersize tag. DO NOT use realistic spider clutch sizes, your FPS will die a horrible death)
I'm not sure if GCS have the [EVIL] tag, but if so you'll need to remove that.

It doesn't matter which file they are in, but you will likely have to regenerate the world for them to work.

You could include catgirls.
