Give immigrants some social skills

I think dwarves should accrue social skills on their own by making friends, owning a shop, having a child, tantruming, etc. and immigrants should occaisonally have some social skill(s) as well.

Good points: perhaps we can have a few more basic job types, such as a diplomat or comedian. Most of these guys would be army bait in moments, but for a player who wanted to give his mayor a break from being the bookkeeper, trader, and whatever else, they have some potential recruits.

Bookkeeper is like basic training to me. All my dwarves go through stints as book keeper if only for the sake of uber stat gains.

How about having parties give social skills? At least conversation, liar, and comedian.

what about making social skills useful at all?

the mayor should go to tantruming/insane dwarves and try to cure them
(succes based on his levels in social skills)

and your dwarfes should actually try to capture berserker dwarfes if their fighting skills are superior to the raging one

Well tantruming dwarves do go to the leader to get comforted. Of course this usually ends with the expedition leader in a stretcher.

They'll obviously be useful at some point.   But giving a small handful of skills to immigrants is something that can be added in relatively quick.
