Next person should be Gabe Newell. You all know what I'm on about.

I don't really think we need a rule. We've sort of reached the point where any fictional character wouldn't really stand much of a chance unless they had some serious mythic weight, like Prometheus. I'm fine with such a rule, though, but I think it should still allow for entities like Prometheus.
I thought you said Prometheus was real.  :P

Prometheus existed. But we do not know when, where, who, what gender or anything else about him/her.

Prometheus existed. But we do not know when, where, who, what gender or anything else about him/her.
which makes him an awful candidate.

I still think we should go with Ernest Hemingway.
He was the greatest writer of his day, he won both the pulitzer and the nobel peace prize, he reported on the spanish civil war, he participated in world war one, and basically created the badass big game hunter archtype. he was the badass of his generation. and he lived out his days in havanna, cuba

he was also very disturbed, and when he eventually decided to shove off, he skipped the sissy poisons and wrist gashes, and instead took a 12-guage to his noggin. (not to say suicide is good, or anything)

Yanlin made an interesting nomination...

Simo or Gabe?

I don't know who to go for here.

Without Gabe we wouldn't have:

Half life.
Half life 2.
Half life 2: Episode 1.
Half lief 2: Episode 2.
Team fortress.
Counter strike.
Day of defeat.
Left for dead.
Team fortress 2.
Source engine.
Steam.
The dwarf fortress Steam community.

I vote for Gabe.

I thought you said Prometheus was real.  :P

I don't remember saying that, and if I did, I was probably either joking or really really tired.

Also, I vote Simo. What, some fat game designer who makes good games is more awesome that a short Finnish peasant who killed 700 armed men with an outdated rifle in the middle of a freezing Finnish winter?

I vote for anyone besides Gabe because he's an ass.

Simo again.

Is he going to be a three-time winner?

Speaking of scientists, how about Louis Pasteur?

He defended the entire human race from manevolent invisible alien-demons (atleast that's what they thought germs were back then), preventing quite a few truly horrific diseases, not only saving lives (even more than Simo) but improving them by making for better looking people with less physical ailments/deformities.

And his work continues to protect us, even long after his death. Pretty badass, I'd say.

Simo didn't save lives. He ended them.

Anyway, I like Pasteur. I sort of doubt that he would win, though.

Actually, Pasteur ended a whole *lot* of lives, just not human ones. He probably killed more germs in a second, even way back then, than Simo killed humans in his entire career.

Besides, as much as there is to be admired about Simo, and there's a lot, I'm still a little more favorably inclined towards someone who saved human lives, than took them, no matter how noble and honorable the cause.
