I demand we limit this to real people only.

If we're going with soldiers, I nominate Audie Murphy.

He lied about his age to go fight WWII, because he thought the army was the only place he could find a job.  By the time the war ended, he had multiple Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, the Medal of Honor and a bunch of other awards - he's usually consider the most decorated soldier in American history.

The most famous example - at he battle of Holtzwihr, he held off attack by an entire company of Germans single-handedly for over an hour with the pintle-gun of a burning Sherman.

After the war, he became a ludicrously successful actor for his day.  Best I've seen was the surprisingly good and believable adaptation of his own biography, To Hell And Back, where he naturally played himself.  He also bought a chain of restaurants around Fort Worth.

I like the idea of limiting this to real people. Also, Audie doesn't win. That doesn't mean I won't vote for him, but there are other, arguably more badass people.

 I must restate he took out over 700 men in under 100 days. 200 of them were with a machine gun.

 However, I must give credit to Audie, as he is one badass dude. He was more of a direct conflict guy who did some heroic things. Simo was more of a skilled patient guy who used his talents where they were effective. Audie was just balls out heroic.

 Very tough choice.
