This is something I think would make DF a lot more fun, but for some reason has been left out, and I couldn't find it by searching. Aiming your strikes could add a lot to combat.
I think this could work if aiming simply added a penalty to hit, depending on the chance you would get that hit anyway. (So that you can't just lob off everyone else's heads all the time.) As long as you're not aiming for the body, it would generally be harder to hit, right? With archery, especially. Trying to hit out your enemy's eyes with your bolts sound super-awesome, but in reality it would be super-hard as well. Of course, I believe this would do well with a "aimed shot" where it takes you maybe twice the time, but you get 1.5 times the accuracy.
Unconscious or otherwise less agile enemies is where this really starts to get fun. Imagine cutting off body parts at will or lopping out eyes with a dagger. Even stabbing a spear straight through someone's head. If someone's unconscious, you should get the first move, and your attack would be way more deadly than normal. Also held enemies should have a similar weakness, allowing you to do a lot of the things in Toady's official todo list. Slitting someone's throat, for example. Striking down an enemy that kneels before you to beg for life.
For those of you who don't like the idea, and like the speed and simplicity of non-wrestling combat, I think that this could simply be a submenu under the attack options, as in you could still do everything you could do before - just more.
I hope my idea gets considered (and isn't implemented before the wrestling menu gets cleaned up - this would be even worse a mess if the options were shown the same way) and I can't wait for even more advances on the Dwarf Fortress front!
