Yet another mistake....
« on: January 10, 2009, 12:39:00 am »

This time, its lava. I was channeling magma to my forges and accidently channeled a bad spot, now magma is set loose apon my castle. http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-4334-kintrumpet

There is no magma problem that can't be solved by dumping water on it.

Designate a pond one z-level above your forges over where the magma is leaking through. You'll have to dig a little.

I did take a look at the map. Dumping water on the magma will turn it into an obsidian wall. If you do this where the magma is leaking, it will plug up the leak.

But if you dump the water from the level where your forges are, the water will simply disappear with no effect. So you have to do it from one level above your forges in order for the magma to turn into obsidian.

I apologize in advance for being condescending if you were already aware of this.

You'll have to set it as a pond. To do that, you'll have to select Pit/Pond preferences on the zone and set it to Pond. Then they'll automatically dump water.

You'll need a fresh source of water, then. You'll have to construct a dwarven desalination plant. You'll need to pump water into a constructed basin in such a manner that the water at no time touches a natural floor or wall.

This magically makes it fresh water, which you can then use as a water source.

All this work to plug up a leak in the magma channels.

Actually that was what I was doing while I was making the lava flow, only I was making a 12z-level high water tower
