A little help.
« on: January 09, 2009, 06:12:57 pm »

I've played DF on and off for a while, but I just recently got interested in Adventure mode. But I'm confused.

The starting guide of the Wiki doesn't really seem to give much. So I'll use this to ask questions, though as of right now I only have one or two, which I'll add more to later.

1. How come after I steal something from a town, while sneaking, and at night when no one is around, people in other towns tend to ignore me when I talk to them.

2. The whole inventory menu confuses me, how does one know when something is equipped?

1. Not sure on this, they usually don't ignore me.

2. I think a body part is displayed next to the item when it's equipped somewhere. To equip weapons and shields, you can use the 'r'emove command, and 'w'ear for armor and clothing. At the bottom-right corner screen you can see the weapon and armor you're wielding next to W: and A:.

1. if you steal something from a town your pretty much Kill on sight to every villager. If your trying to talk to someone while theyre asleep however, their just asleep...

2. If the item is equipped then on the inventory screen it should show which body part it is equipped to on the right.

Okay, another.
Is it possible to sell items to a store?

I'm trying to sell an item, but when I put my item up for sell, and it asks me what I want in return, I choose the item, then I click trade. But it repeatedly tells me I need to offer an item.

hes just telling you that you need to offer him better items in order to trade.Stuff like corpses and limbs arent very valuable, and they usually want stuff like crafts, armor, weapons, etc. just to buy an item.

If you steal anything, but escape undetected, you wont be kill on sight. However, everyone else in the civilisation will no longer talk to you but will say something like ' i dont talk to the likes of you'. It seems bad reputation spreads even quicker in Df than oblivion.

From "Angroshs Kinder" Das schwarze Auge Zwergenhandbuch - (Angrosh Children, the dark eye, german pen&paper, dwarven handbook):
"Elves!? Their men dont wear beards, and their women bathe nacked to lure you into the water and drown you. Thank Angrosh they are as ugly as the day and all big and skinny."

You found equipment?

a) Equipment: remove from bag, wear. The adventurer mode inventory is terrible, and it'll list new equipment at the bottom of the huge list.

b) How to find equipment:
1. Start a dwarf mode fort
2. sell huge amounts of stuff to traders, preferably those with shops and cities that are easy to find, that is, the humans
3. After a couple of trades with the humies, abandon the fort
4. Start a Human Adventurer in the human civilization closest to where your old fortress was
5. Visit a town. Check if you get "A Wagon has been scuttled!"
5a. No Scuttle message: Go to next town, continue at step 5 above.
5b. A Wagon has been scuttled: There should now be stone crafts strewn across half the town.
6. Pick up all the mugs, toys, instruments, crowns, rings and amulets you can carry.
7. Stagger into a shop
8. Trade all the stuff for *Chainmail* etc

course you could just do the dwarfy thing and kill everybody. You get to keep the stuff and ethnically cleanse a town of non-dwarfs.

I have a question too :) Can you aim where a blow will hit and, if yes, how do you do so? I read people talking about surgical precision carnages... and cutting off all the members of a creature before finally killing it, althought fun, is not very pratic :)

You can't aim weapon-attacks. Only wrestling, which obviously can't cut.

Ahhh... thanks for the info anyway :) I was hoping that maybe grabing and attacking would give some level of choice, but was proven wrong then I struck the lower leg of someone I was holding by the neck :)
