tileset vs graphics or better yet: both
« on: January 09, 2009, 04:47:02 pm »

I've been having some trouble installing graphic sets lately.

For the rage of Armok I cannot remember how I used to do it. :(

The tileset installation is easy and straightforward.
(copy file and edit the init-file.)
The graphics are another matter though, I took Sphr's set of the wiki and put it in it's own folder as directed by the manual and created the description file as provided as well.

Now you have to enable 'graphics' in the init, and it demands the file to be referenced there as well, and consequently fails to find it in the subfolder.
I find this behaviour strange as I would assume the description-file I just created to override the init settings.
Does one need to set the graphics to NO or delete the default settings for graphics in the init?

Feel free to laugh and call me a re-noob, but only after explaining what went wrong. :)

ah: the file reference is just for the font, not the gfx. :duh:

You don't reference the graphics set from init,  you still point that at the font you want to use  (the tileset).  The graphics are all included based on the text files in the graphics folder.

yeah. I realized that and made an edit at the end of above post.

I'd like to see the font-type for texts separate from the tileset used for graphics completely, not just the creatures. That or no re-use of the same characters in unrelated instances.

Yeah, everyone has been waiting on this feature forever.  I honestly wish Toady would prioritize it a little more, because the graphics are right on the verge of being accessible.
